Any organization can only successfully work if is able to utilize its most important asset i.e. its human resource. In order to effectively achieve strategic objectives of the organization, it is critical that the organization must be able to hire and develop employees who can work into uncertain environment and can also operate as an effective team members.
Same also goes if you are part of a class which works towards the common goals of delivering certain knowledge and equip students to actually learn tools and techniques which can help them to actually use such knowledge in their professional life. Students therefore have to work with different people and in teams in order to accomplish various tasks.
In one of our courses, we were assigned a group task to prepare a report and professor assigned three persons in each team to complete the task jointly. Our job was to prepare a report and present it to the teacher on the given deadline. It was a team effort and we had to actually go through different stages before finally setting for what is expected from each of us and how we can contribute individually and as a team to achieve our common objective.
One of the key challenges for us as a team was to first decide who is going to do what because previously we are simply unaware of the strengths of each other. We never knew as to whether which team member has particular set of skills which can help us to complete the assignment with ease.
Initially, during the forming phase of the team, each team member was also unaware of how to define our objectives and who will be the team leader. My experience during this phase suggested that this is probably the most difficult phase as we struggled to find a leader within our team who can coordinate with all other team members and also with the professor. It was relatively difficult task because we didn’t know who possess such quality.
It is also important to note also that few of our team members have other assignments too and were finding it difficult to give proper time. During this phase, I have specifically learned as to how team members can actually contribute towards each other and distribute the work in a manner which doesn’t put much burden on any single team member. As a team we distributed the work in a manner which allowed each of us to actually complete up to that part of the work which can be easily managed.
Overall, my experience was relatively good as I learned great deal of how to actually deal with people and how to become an effective communicator. In order to work effectively with a team, it is important to have good and clear communication skills because they allow you to better communicate your message and also understand what other team members have to communicate to you. Overall, it was good experience to develop relationships with more of my class mates. Read More
