A Man is not a Team Teamwork is a very important matter especially when it involves different individuals. For teamwork tocommence, these individuals should have one goal. For the workforce in San Diego California, they attempted to break a world record in building a house in less than 4 hours and 18 minutes. The task needed a number of individual workers who has the ability to work with others as a team. 700 individuals joined hands having only one goal in their mind. Did they beat the world record?

Where they able to collaborate with each other and be as one? Building a house will take days, weeks, even months, how did this group built a 3-bedroom and 2-bathroom house in less than 3 hours?In a very fast paced world and society, individuals have the tendency to become more independently especially when achieving their goals. However, it is still a tested fact that more often a team’s goal is more feasible rather than an individual goal. Like in the example that was given in by those people who participated in the 4-Hour House in San Diego.

It is not easy to build a house. There are instances that even if the house has been meticulously built, there are bits and pieces of errors that might cause an accident during the building process. Yet in the event that occurred in San Diego, it just proved that nothing is impossible when people unite and work as one towards a common goal.For teams to be united there should be no barriers as to the extent how an individual will cooperate to achieve the goal. According to DAndrea-OBrien and Buono (4-6), the output should not be based on an individual’s contribution to the whole task.

It is still the team who should be given the credit as all of the people involved have exhausted their energy and collaborated with their peers to achieve the success of the common goal. It is the team’s goal that is put into consideration and not the heroic stands of just one individual. Still looking at the example of the 4-Hour House, nobody was a superhero. The success of the whole record-breaking event was credited to each and every individual who put their hearts, souls and mind to the whole project.

No person in his right mind will take the credit alone for such a huge success. D’Andrea-O’Brien and Buono suggested that:The development of learning teams, however, requires managers to rethink their role, achieving a balance between status as the "expert" and a coach facilitator. They must encourage team members to build a psychological contract among the team members. This contract states team members’ strengths and skills, expectations both for the results and the process they will follow, as well as a set of norms they commit to follow.

It is the honoring of this contract that will deliver results. Though it will always go into the papers that there are leaders in a group, there are also individuals who made the whole experience possible. In the example given, which is the 4-Hour House, there was no name of a leader mentioned in the video. Yet the whole team was given the credit of how much inspiration they have given not just to the people of San Diego but the whole United States and who knows maybe of those living in other countries.

A person will not be a leader if nobody will follow him. A group will not get any recognition if they will not achieve anything. A group needs a person who will inspire them to achieve something that will give the whole organization a mark in history. Such achievement will not be reached if individuals in a group will work alone. For success to be achieved, every person needs to cooperate and collaborate with other individuals. Success is not achieved by the brain alone. The brain needs to heart to succeed.
