Project management al Affiliation) Key words: network diagram, Activity Network Diagram 2 The EST Earliest StartingTime) is zero day for the first task: activity A. The activities thereafter are equivalent to the LFT ( Latest Finish Time) of the preceding activity. EST = LFT on the predecessor (Heerkens, 2002). For instance, activity C is equivalent to LFT of activity B. EFT is computed through duration addition to EST. Therefore, EFT=EST+Duration. For instance, activity C EFT= EST +the duration.

The crucial activity is the task with the longest time in the group recognized as the crucial activity (Goralski, 2009). For instance, in the group of tasks, C, D, F, and E, tack C has the longest time, compared to other activities. The latest Start Time is computed through the addition of floats to the LST of the crucial activity in the group. Therefore, LFT=EST + total float (Kesidis, 2007). For instance, activity D LST= Activity C LST+ total float of activity D. The latest Finish Time is computed through the addition of a float to the LST.

Therefore, the LFT= LST + Duration. The total float= LFT-duration-EST (Field & Keller, 2006) 3 To calculate the duration of the project, first identify the critical path (Maldon, 1972). The critical path holds a collection of dependable tasks which gives the longest period in completing the project and these tasks within the critical path are referred as the critical tasks. In other words, it is a collection of activities having a zero total float (“Diagram of metropolitan network, 1972). The critical path is A, B, C, D, G, H, J, K, M, N, O, P, Q, R.

Project duration is computed by adding the activity’s duration as . 4 The sixty seven days' duration, the earliest period for the completion of the project is 11th April. The data are gotten counting sixty seven days from 4nd Feb excluding Sunday and Saturday Koster & Stok, 1989). 5 a) Activity E is a crucial activity, a one day delay increases the duration of the entire project by a single day, thereby 68 days (Dehmer, 2011). b) For activity p This will shorten the time by a single day thus 66 days (Maylor, 1996). c) For Q this activity has a total float of six days, a one day early will have no effect on the whole project (Lock, 2007). 6) A network diagram represents activities logically that depicts sequence and time of actions (Deeprose, 2002).

The network diagram is important in giving snapshots and further explanation of project management and projects new members who are unfamiliar with the project. It is also helpful in stakeholder review and in peer of the project. The network diagram is a crucial tool for the projects to take form and shape. The network diagram can either be an activity on node and activity on arrow (Baker & Baker, 2000). The proposals for the network diagram shows the relationship and sequence of tasks necessary in completing the project.

It also identifies the project milestones used in monitoring the competition and progress. The network diagram also schedules the activities properly. It also allocates the resources to tasks effectively. They also reduce the project uncertainty by breaking projects into simpler phases (Capite, 2007). Reference Baker, S., & Baker, K. 2000 .
