?WK3_Performance Management Paper INTRODUCTION Performance management is a continuous process which is widely practiced by numbers of organization for ensuring enhanced and efficient performance at different levels and departments of the origination. Accordingly, performance management has much broader scope and entails wide array of functions. At the same time, the role of Human Resource Management (HRM) is perceived to be extremely crucial for attaining the increased performance of an organization (Huselid, Jackson and Schuler 171-188). In order to ascertain comprehensive understanding about the performance management, this paper will critically review the selected article “Technical and Strategic Human Resource Management Effectiveness as Determinants of Firm Performance”. Furthermore, the article will apply the derived understanding from the article in the context of Ford Motor Company (Huselid, Jackson and Schuler 171-188). SUMMARY OF THE ARTICLE The article is primarily based on the learning relating to the performance management system of different firms in the United States. The article also explains the effective Human Resource Practices that can be utilized for delivering effective performance management practices. It predominately propagates the combination of various strategic HR practices that can provide great aid in determining and achievement of the broad objectives of a business. Furthermore, this article highlights the importance and broad functions of technical along with strategic HRM effectiveness. This article critically reveals the relation between effectiveness of HRM and a firm’s performance. In addition, this article deciphers detailed statistical reports which are primarily based on the various functions that are laid down in an organization with the help of broad HR practices and also promulgates the role and contribution of strategic HRM in measuring the performance of an organization. Moreover, this article highlighted the various capabilities that result in enhancing the effectiveness of HRM in an organization. This article also provided detailed analysis and reports that were sufficient to show the overall impact of performance management in the US firms (Huselid, Jackson and Schuler 171-188). Essentially, the identified components of performance management consisted of broad HRM practices. COMPARISION OF THE COMPONENTS IDENTIFIED WITH FORD MOTOR COMPANY’S PERFORMANCE MANAGEMENT SYSTEM The critical review of the selected article broadly propagated the role of strategic HRM in enhancing the performance of an organization. Additionally, it has been ascertained that the strategic HRM within an organization facilitates in embedding the organizational strategies and policies with HR strategies which ultimately contributes towards increasing the overall performance of the organization. The comparison of the performance management processes as identified in the selected article with Ford Motor Company reveal that there persists certain differences within the Ford Motor Company in their current practice. Essentially, Ford Motor Company believes in maintaining all round transparency regarding the expectations of the company from its employees and further seeks to attain reliable commitment of employees towards the accomplishment of the organizational goals and objectives. On the contrary, the selected article firmly emphasized that the US organizations largely relies upon creating broad strategic HRM practices so as to ensure proper performance management of the employees as well as the organization. Ford Motor Company is also working upon various plans to incorporate new and improved performance management strategies in the future. In contrast the selected article showed that the US organizations primarily believed on statistical analysis and processes as well as on various feedback collection methods on order to measure outcome generated from performance management activities. Nonetheless, it can be argued that the performance management techniques followed by Ford Motor Company and other US organizations are innovative and are bound to derive specific results. Concerning with Ford Motor Company, it is quite apparent that the company is committed towards seeking greater contribution from its employees as well as the company ensures that its employees are highly satisfied and loyal towards their performance. Furthermore, the company duly relates its overall performance with the performance of its employees. Correspondingly, it ensures that every employee within the organization is offered with adequate opportunities and endeavors towards offering cordial workplace environment. The employees within the company are made aware of the responsibilities and duties wherein every employee contributes their loyal efforts towards increasing the performance of the company (Ford motor Company). DISCUSSCUSSION FOR IMPROVEING ITS PERFORMANCE MANAGEMENT SYSTEM IN ORDER TO ALIGN EMPLOYEE BEHAVIOR WITH ORGANIZATIONAL OBJECTIVES Ford Motor Company can formulate and implement various strategies in order to improve its performance Management system together with aligning behavior of employees with the organizational objectives. Correspondingly, the few crucial strategies that can be adopted by the Ford Motor Company are being represented below. Training and Development The effective and regular training and development activities can aid the company to enhance the competency and skills of its employees which can further reward the company with increased organizational performance (Srivastava 1-50). Compensation Another crucial initiative of the company in the form of adequate compensation and reward for the outstanding performance can facilitate the company to influence the behavior of its employees towards the attainment of the organizational objectives (Srivastava 1-50). Performance Appraisal The regular performance appraisal may facilitate the company to identify the areas for further improvement and address the needs of the employees in the most effective manner. Contextually, the efficient performance appraisal may facilitate in arraigning the committed efforts of its employees towards the achievement of the organizational goals (Srivastava 1-50). Clarification of the Roles Assigning roles and responsibilities of every employees in clear and transparent manner based on the level of competency acquire by the respective employees may facilitate in attaining motivated employees which may further contribute towards seeking whole hearted commitment of employees towards the accomplishment of the employees (Srivastava 1-50). CONCLUSION From the above study, it was observed that there are few affective techniques that are utilized by the organizations of the US in order to attain increased performance. The selected article also revealed that strategic HRM plays an important role in attaining increased organizational performance. Correspondingly, organization should duly strive to seek committed workforce in order to smoothly achieve the broad goals of the organization. In this context, it was identified that training and development, compensation, and performance appraisal programs are crucial for aligning the employees’ behavior with the organizational objectives and goals.
