Contemporary businesses continue to suffer from the dynamisms and turbulences within the environment as a result of increased competition. Consequently, several strategic options have been identified to assist in achieving a competitive advantage, which assists in increasing profitability and sustainable business success. One such strategic option has been the use of corporate social responsibility. The majority of contemporary corporations believe in the economic value of CSR, unlike their classical counterparts that perceive CSR as an economic burden.
In a bid to judge whether CSR is an economic burden or provide economic value, this research employed a combination of both primary and secondary research. The research involved a sample of 6 firms and 50 participants. The information was collected using questionnaires for the 50 participants and using secondary information for the firms. On the basis of the information, it was obtained that CSR is of economic value and not an economic burden as perceived by the classical corporation. In addition, several factors were identified that affect the successful incorporation of CSR practices and policies within an organization.
Conclusions and recommendations to the firm and for further studies were provided.Embracing effective CSR remains a crucial component in defining the continued competitive advantage for a corporation hence the success of an organization. Evidently, CSR guides an organization is not only seeking to win its corporate objectives but also promote the sustained well being of the society at large in a bid to achieve sustainable business success. In its most basic form, CSR refers to how the business model and social-environmental demands influence decision making in organizations (Crane et al., 2009). Despite the crucial significance of CSR in promoting socioeconomic sustainability, and the wealth of literature in this field of study, embracing a reliable CSR policy has remained a major challenge among key players in the corporate world.
