CGI is commonly utilized also because it permits the construction of images that are invisible through any other technique. CGI technology can permit one artist to produce a movie without using actors and costly set pieces. The modern availability of computer-generated image software and the enormous speed of the computer has enabled small companies, and artists to create professional-grade movies, aesthetic art, and games from their personal computers, (Tumblin, Rushmeier & Georgia Institute of Technology, 1991). This has resulted in an online subculture with unique world celebrities, complex vocabularies, and clichés. This paper will investigate the effects of CGI movies on viewers’ perceptions and beliefs. It will also show how CGI movies are compromising the traditional art of filmmaking.

Discussion

As observed in current movies, digital characters look quite different and movie backgrounds are increasingly falsified courtesy of CGI techniques. If one thinks of films with these animated or impersonated notes, he may wonder where the sophistication in CGIs is heading. Similarly, experts are wondering whether Hollywood movies and film stores are losing focus on what attracts the audience to think about their heroes and be compelled by their stories in movies.

Since the introduction of CGI technology, everything in filmmaking has significantly changed, for instance, sound effects, emotional effects, and visual effects. Computer-generated images have become a new mechanism in filmmaking with extensive impact on both the scene or background and audience perception and belief, (Deussen & Lintermann, 2005).

For instance, since Jurassic park created live dinosaurs and the story of Toy indicated that a computer-generated image animation could be seen as including anything else in the movie, there have been various technologically excellent films. Similarly, the less-stellar cases, such as Titans clash recently, pose concerns for the film audience. For instance, different issues arise concerning what compels the audience to the movie. Is it the fantasy remakes and celebrity films because filmmakers can create fictional worlds through extensive computer sovereignty and inventive device? Alternatively, will there be increasingly aesthetic acting characters in these animated films? In essence, computer-generated images have revolutionized filmmaking influencing everything that people watch, (Hall, 2009).

In the modern world, CGI technologies create fantasy environments and imaginary characters that appear more real compared to previous decades, when filmmakers had to create creatures physically without using computer technologies to falsify images. In filmmaking CGI, technology is utilized in subtle ways such as digitally enhancing pieces of sets.

With CGI technology, one can shoot a movie faster and erase blemishes on characters through facial transformation. Similarly, a photographer can add physical features such as trees and buildings and change the seasons to compel and draw the viewer’s attention. Filmmakers have the ability to manipulate scenes, events, stories, and characters and make them look and feel real.

A movie that might cost thousand dollars can be edited through computer-generated images for about a quarter of the price. In addition, dangerous on-set scenes that need several hours of preparation can be included in a setting by a computer-generated artist operating with his personal computer at home. For instance, an enthusiastic Zareh the leader of the Sydney visual effects movie changed personified studio Animal Logic, the second movie after Happy Feet, with the manipulated adventure of owl Guardian Legends.

Computer-generated images allow moviemakers to investigate wider issues, let go of their imaginations and utilize various mediums and the diverse genre that they can utilize.

The visual effects quality significantly affects the believability of the movie for the audience. Similarly, various Hollywood movies strive to cover any acts of the movie production approaches utilized with the objectives of providing the audience with experience. Some people consider this Hollywood style of movie production as the invisible style, and the visual impacts of digital machines, in most cases, make this approach of movie production increasingly easier and achievable to produce (than the traditional movie) because of reduced costs, (Ihaddaden, LiveNews & Films for the Humanities 2002).

Some of the movies that confirm this argument include a Guardian Legend movie, which is an action fantasy adventure that has a naturalistic image, and the Flying Horse. The truth about the movie is that people mainly realize effects are effects, but with elements of startling reality. For instance, people are aware that the horse cannot move through the air and carpet cannot fly. In the modern world, these actions can be achieved through computer-generated images. The audience would get immediate horse cuts heaving and tossing his mane, and sultan clinging for the precious life and eagles circling and the top shot to the below ground, and the film would get quite busy that it would ignore the true aim of the shot- The Flying Horse.

This is what happens with CGI movies, which focus on effects rather than what the movie portrays. In these movies, audiences are not looking for real characters but animated compelling characters.

Conclusion

Experts agree that there are obstacles to the computer-generated images revolution just as any other technological advances in filmmaking.
