Discussion Overview ETC Group is an organization which was formed thirty years ago. During the initial days the organization was known as “Action Group on Erosion, Technology and Concentration”. However, the organization was introduced with the new name of ETC Group in the year 2001. ETC Group fundamentally deals with the issues related to agriculture (ETC Group, n.d). They especially measure the international affairs pertaining to the field of agriculture which includes maintenance of agricultural biodiversity and securities along with developed and modern technological impact on agriculture. ETC group is a non-profitable organization and it majorly sustains on the donated funds. They generally focus on the process of developing a greener environment. The working procedure of ETC Group signifies that it works as a research team in order to collect particular information on a specific region for protecting the environment (Brodhead, 2001). From the performance and progress made by the ETC Group it is assumed that they manage their operational process systematically in order to conduct their research and education to collect proper and sufficient information with regard to a particular environment. With reference to the context, it can be stated that ETC Group makes certain of the persuasion of the management practices throughout its operations. ETC Group has considered the processes of planning, leading, organizing, staffing and controlling which are considered to be few of the fundamental rudiments of management practices. Management practice can be defined as the process of managing the specified process systematically. Planning Planning can be defined as the process of considering certain measures for framing a structure in accordance with the operational process which requires to be pursued. The facet of planning has been known to entail certain forms with the assistance of which the functions of an organization are executed. The types of planning are corporate planning which is referred as a process in which the organization thinks of the long term organizational or future goals along with formulating strategies to attain the intended organizational objectives. Functional planning can be defined as the procedure in which the higher officials of the organization focuses upon the chief internal functions as well as deciding on the organizational structure which is believed to help the organization to perform its operations systematically. Operational planning generally involves the plans which are prepared in order to support the functions and procedures involved with the organization (Kerzner, 2009). With reference to the context it can be stated that ETC Group intentionally considers the incorporation of the planning methods related to management practices with their organizational process for the reason of carrying out their organizational activities efficiently. The working procedures of ETC reveals that planning is considered to be quite imperative because with good and proper planning, ETC Group will able to collect sufficient and appropriate information and can also track the actual place or incidents. The history of ETC group reveals that they perform activities and researches on seeds along with finding the opposite measures to protect the agriculture and conservation of agricultural biodiversity. With the help of this method the organization’s condition or status can be deciphered by measuring its performance. Leading can be defined as the process of helping the organization acquire an enhanced position with systematic functioning and efficiently attaining their primary objectives. In an instance, when an organization is found to be repeatedly achieving its intentions and is able to satisfy its customers efficiently, then in becomes easy for it to lead in the competition (Galbraith, 2002). This particular process of leading is supposed to be applicable for the ETC Group because it is assumed to be in a developing stage and is also competent of achieving its objectives by evaluating the problems affecting the environment along with the precautionary measures to reduce the negative environmental impact. The discussion is substantiated with the help of the respective instance. The instance states that initially ETC group to deal with seeds and other agricultural concern; however, taking into deliberation their future activities it has been observed that ETC Group planned to undertake certain measures in order to defend the environment from the problems affecting the environment. The considered preventive measures have been found to arise from intellectual property, biotechnology, bio-piracy and human genomics along with modern technological impacts. Moreover, these measures help ETC Group to protect the environment from being affected by human, technology and natural disaster among others. These measures have been considered by ETC group because they are achieving their primary objective efficiently for which they had able to expand their organization to many territories such as United States, Australia and others. With reference to the context it is stated that ETC Group is leading in the present competition. Furthermore, this particular aspect can be defined as the process in which a particular organization structures the process of its operations according to the allotted resources, time and members (Geiss, 2003). With consideration to the predefined context it can be stated that ETC Group has also considered the method of organizing in relation to the management practices for achieving their primary objectives. This is because ETC Group conducts research regarding the development of safety measures by which the environment can be protected facilitating a greener community. Before conducting the research ETC Group needs to consider the level of potency of their manpower according to which they require to divide the group for particular tasks, a specific time needs to be prearranged for individual groups and resources. It needs to be mentioned in this respect that the groups need to organize their performance in order to accomplish the goals efficiently. The organizing process of ETC Group has been evaluated with an illustration. Furthermore, it is has also been stated in this regard that vitamin A is likely to pose certain influences on the mankind in future. Staffing The aspect of staffing generally relates to the employees along with the process of recruiting new employees according to the requisite skills of the organization. Furthermore, staffing can also be defined as the process of selecting fresh employees according to the organizational needs along with identifying the qualities and the arrangement of the existing employees as well as considering the process of training the employees. With reference to the above context, it is assumed that ETC Group carries out the practice of the staffing technique in relation to the management practices (Davenport, De Long, & Beers, 1998). ETC group possesses employees through which they are able to conduct their business function i.e. research. The history of ETC Group states that it has a workforce of only twenty employees who serve five of the ETC Group’s branches. They generally require highly qualified researchers owing to the nature of their work. However, it is observed that ETC group only involves other individuals only as a responder for collecting information for the research. The employees of ETC usually require traveling extensively in order to support the team for carrying out various researches along with communicating with each other through mails. Controlling Controlling is the process of guiding the operation and performance according to the process of planning and organizing. Furthermore, controlling can be defined as the process of managing the organizational units according to the structured plans for achieving the objectives along with effectually and systematically carrying out the intended activities respectively (Kerzner, 2009). ETC Group considers the factor of controlling as a part of their management practice in order to ensure the smooth functioning of their fundamental business functions. It can be stated that if ETC group fails to control any measures or process systematically then the research would entail chances of producing the wrong outcome which can adversely affect the environment as the researches are executed in order to ascertain the ways of trimming down the harmful environmental consequences. From their performance, it can be stated that they had consistently pursued the process of controlling which has been a reason for them to deliver accurate outcomes of their researches. It is considered quite easy to control their processes of research because the employees and the management are supposed to quite familiar with each other and it can also be stated that ETC group engages a minimum number of employees who are highly qualified and experienced in terms of their assigned tasks or areas as a result of which it becomes simple to control their performances. Conclusion The overview of the ETC Group describe that they are performing their work efficiently as a result of which the organization has been competent of enhancing its performances by expanding its branches in the United States (US) and Australia among others along with renaming the organization to ETC Group from Action Group on Erosion, Technology and Concentration. They generally conduct researches with regard to intellectual property, biodiversity, agricultural patent seeds, impact of the modern technology upon the environment and safety measures that are supposed to be pertinent to the environment so that the community looks green. Furthermore, the organization is also known to conduct their research with appropriate outcomes by considering the management practices such as planning, leading, organizing, staffing and controlling among others. With the help of these functions, the ETC Group has been able to manage their performances determinately and in a logical manner which further helped it to perform researches more effectively.
