The SQUAD team in each of the Salvation Army Corps along with the other ministries is under the supervision of the area commander. The program would particularly use the Barefoot resources as a special strategy to develop leadership as well as promote parent-child relationship of the members. Preparatory program activities would include training of teachers and volunteers, identification of teens and families who are potential candidate members for SQUAD, identification of academic needs of the teens, and scheduling of individual visits and group sessions.

Regular activities are (a) once a week meetings of SQUAD members with the teachers and assistant teachers for academic tutorial and SQUAD curriculum; (b) once a month child-parent activity; (c) once a year Barefoot training program; (d) quarterly meetings of SQUAD team for program monitoring and evaluation. Expectations The program is needed to reach the individuals most specially the teens aged 14-18 in Tennessee who are unable to attend regular Salvation Army Sunday school due to economic concerns and language and/or cultural issues.

The program corresponds to the funder’s aim to improve educational achievement by teaching “teens the knowledge, spiritual, physical and mental” (The Salvation Army, 2011) information they need in order to live a just and Christ centered life. The grant would enable the Tennessee division to establish one SQUAD with twenty teenage members in each of the eleven Salvation Army Corps in year one. At the end of the three year period, each Salvation Army Corps are expected to increase the number of SQUADS in their respective areas to cater to additional numbers and needs of the teen and family members.

According to Michael Worth (2011), no matter how noble the mission of an organization is it will likely collapse without ample resources to support it (p. 5). Thus, the long-term outcome of SQUAD includes sustainability mechanisms such as conduct of fund raising activities to make it self-sufficient. Evaluation The program will use annual performance indicators, outputs to measure the three year results to measure its success. It has also identified risk and assumptions to prepare the program for possible changes, as well as monitoring and evaluation tools.

The performance indicators of the program are (a) establishment of one SQUAD in each of the eleven Salvation Army Corps; (b) increase in SQUAD members; (c) increase in number of volunteer teacher and assistant teachers; (d) sustained attendance of the number of teen SQUAD members and parents involved in the program for three years; (e) increase in academic grades of the teen SQUAD members; (f) increase in the number of students who become leaders in their school organizations and respective communities.
