Possibility of acceleration of globalization in the future

Globalization is a term that is commonly used in reference to the phenomenon of international integration that comes as a result of people from different parts of the world, exchanging products, resources, technologies, ideas, views, and some cultural aspects. The factors that have led to the increase in globalization include the enhancement of communication and transport technologies that have been able to turn the whole world into a global village. Globalization is no a new phenomenon as it has been in existence for decades now. However, it is the term globalization that can be said to be a recent term. However, for thousands of years people have been interacting and exchanging resources and other various aspects of their lives. However, there has been a common debate on whether or not globalization will persist and whether it has a future. Some people are of the opinion that globalization has a future while others think otherwise. There is more than sufficient evidence to prove that globalization has a future. This paper aims at discussing reasons as to why globalization has a future.

As evident in the modern world, there has been a general increase in the pace at which globalization is growing. As time goes by globalization has to face more challenges and opportunities. A keen observer will be able to notice that the nations in the world are gradually becoming more dependent on each other. One of the reasons as to why globalization is likely to advance is the fact that technology cannot stop advancing. Technology is a major factor for globalization because it makes geographical distance seize from being a problem like it used to be in the previous generations.

Every day a new technology is introduced to the world. With such advancement in technology, people find in easier to connect to the world (Odrik 2011, p. 101). With advancement in technology an individual can be able to have lunch in a Paris and hold a meeting in Berlin in the evening. Alternatively, technology has also made it easier for a person to attend a meeting in the US without having to be physically there, thanks to video conferencing. One thing about technology is that the involved parties are always looking for ways to make the already existing technologies better, which means that globalization is only likely to advance.

Another reason as to why globalization is likely to advance can be seen in what is taking place in the economic and commercial front. Many big corporations and companies have been looking at globalization as the most viable avenue of growth and development. In the modern business environment, business managers are always looking for new markets to venture in. This can be used to be an indication that globalization is only likely to become a global phenomenon. No company would leave a chance of venturing into a new market. Even companies from the same locality have taken their rivalry for supremacy globally (Gubler 2011, p. 11). The number of companies that are going global are increasing on a daily basis. Furthermore, it should be noted that going global brings more than just global presence. This is supported by the fact that the companies that have gone global have been observed to be doing better as compared to those that have not decided to go global in almost all the cases.

Another reason as to why globalization is likely to advance is in the fact that governments are also warming their hearts to this idea. Initially, it was observed that in some countries such as China, globalization has been highly discouraged through legislations that makes it less likely to occur. Looking at the foreign policies and the international trade policies in countries that were initially considered to be conservative such as China, it can be noted that they have been slowly changing their stand with regard to international trade and globalization (Chumakov & Gay 2016, p. 161). This might be taken to imply that there is a possibility that such countries are going to be more open to international trade in the future.The fact that they have changed their stand regarding the involvement of foreign investors in the local economic activities is an indication that they have come to the realization that globalization is a thing of the future. The policy changes in China regarding foreign direct investment can only be an indication of major changes in the future that will in return increase the involvement of international organization in the Chinese economy and the markets.

Countries that belong to the same regional blocks are making globalization more than relaxing of trade barriers. These countries are allowing the free movement of people across borders with the purpose of making sure that they can enhance their relations. This has happened in a number of regional blocks. This is an indication that countries are slowly getting rid of the borders that were creating economic and social barriers. Over the last decade the number of countries that have been joining such regional block has been on the increase (West & Heath 2011, p. 213). This is a trend that is likely to increase. When countries join regional block such as the EU the rate at which they exchange products, resources, technologies, ideas, views, and some cultural aspects with the other countries that belong to the block usually increase. With countries taking this direction as far as international relations is concerned, then globalization is here to stay, and is only likely to advance as opposed to reducing. The more countries get comfortable with each other the easier it becomes for them to work together.

In the past, people have always been sceptical about the idea of diversity. This has always been an issue owing to the fact that people have always been of the opinion that cultural exchange is inappropriate. No one was in a position to consider the culture of the other person of equal importance. This is one of the factors that are believed to have led to animosity among people of different ethnic or cultural backgrounds. However, people are slowly coming to terms with the fact that people are different, but do not imply that other people are superior to the others. Many parts of the world, people are embracing diversity in culture and religious belief. This is only an indication that people of different beliefs and cultures are gradually finding ways through which they can be able to live with each other. If this was not happening then it would be highly probable that many people would not have been in the various parts of the world that they are living in at the moment (Baylis, Smith & Owens 2010, and p. 174). This can be used to be an indication that as time goes by, people are becoming more comfortable with people with different beliefs and cultures around them. This is clearly a viable ingredient for the advancement of globalization.

It should also be noted that the other reason as to why globalization is likely to accelerate in the future is the distribution of resources whereby it is seen that there are some nations that have an access to some resources while others do not have access to the same resources, but have access to other resources. At a time like this is seen that the nations have to depend on each other and the nest way through which this kind of dependence can be explained in globalization. Countries are only likely to get more dependent on each other, with globalization leading to an evident increase in specialization. Instead of attempting to be self-sufficient, many countries have settled on doing what they do best and depending on using their best to earn the money that they can use to get the things that they are not able to produce from the countries that are able to produce them to perfection. This is a trend that has been increasingly becoming evident and is only likely to lead to the advancement of globalization.

Despite the fact that there are numerous points that support the assertion that globalization is only likely to advance in the future, there are a number of points that counters this argument. One of the reasons given as to why globalization is less likely to advance in the future is based on the fact that the hard economic times has hard hit nations to an extent that they have been a little more self-centred. This is an indication that countries have become less considerate of the benefits of the other nations. However, this point of argument can be refuted given the fact that most of the nations use globalization to drive these self-centred gains. This involves negotiation for international deals with the interest of specific nation being prioritized at the expense of the other parties that are involved in the negotiation. In such scenarios the nations that suffer most are the developing ones.

Another argument against the advancement of globalization in the future is based on the fact that the major powers such as Russia and the US have been having points of disagreement, leading to some form of impractical tension between the two countries. This is an indication that their capacity to work together is getting less gradually. However, this is a problem that is mainly common with the superpowers. This might be used to assert that the less ale countries are less affected by these struggles. In fact, there is a common assertion that it is in fact globalization and the struggle to get allies that is making it hard for these countries to work together because of their conflicting social and political ambitions is what brings the differences. This does not imply that globalization will not be able to advance.

It is clearly evident that globalization is likely to accelerate in the future. As discussed herein factors such as the advancement of technology, embracing of diversity, changes in international trade policies in some countries such as China, and the consolidation of regional blocks are factors that are going to make it easier for globalization to advance. These factors have conditioned the society is such a way that everyone will always be seeking for more. The nature of the modern society is only going to be more advanced in globalization if in any case the last decade is anything to take under consideration. There is more that sufficient evidence to prove that globalization I likely to advance in the future.
