The sessions presented the studies previously carried out to investigate and analyze their findings on the respective topics. Both the sessions tackled issues that pertain to the relationships between education, the Chinese, and the United States. The number of a student pursuing the Chinese language as their undergraduate course has been on the increase; a sign of the interest developed for the same (section 1). Even with the much attention in the Chinese language, the inward motivation and will to learn, surpass the outside forces as far as learning and accomplishment of academic objectives are concerned.

According to the session, the issue of gender has been captured with the female gender being more motivated than the male (section 1). The session would have been better had the study tackled other environmental, biological, or even political factors that influence the individuals inwardly. From the session the question of what effect would a large study sample have on the final findings is of importance; would it have brought about finer and more accurate details or would it have altered the current results?

Relationship between Chinese students and their American friends Referring to the session on “the effect of communication skills, English proficiency, perceptions of the United States and personality on the relationship between Chinese students and their American friends,” it is important to note that communication skills and one’s social perspective are a significant determinant in the way they relate with other people. In line with the findings on the relationship between the United States and the Chinese citizens, Poor or somewhat negative personalities lead to a poor outward perception by people which renders one having poor relationships with people from different cultures or nationalities.

Having emotions reduces the chances for an American to relate healthily with a Chinese citizen; negative emotions have been pointed as one of the personality traits that profoundly affect the way people build relationships (section 2). The manner in which one responds to the other individual's feelings and thoughts may either be in agreement or disagreement; people who are likely to agree with others in their thoughts and feelings have high chances of building up a relationship (section 2). The mastery and fluency in speaking the English language will not affect the prospects for a Chinese to build a relationship with the Americans (section 2).

Deep and more intense research on this matter together with undertaking studies from diverse perspectives would give a hand in realizing more on the relationship between the Americans and the Chinese. From this session, it is important to ask oneself whether the factors affecting the relationship between the Chinese and Americans while in America are also the same factors affecting the American's relationship with the Chinese while in China. Does learning the Chinese language for the Americans increase their chances to get into relationships with the Chinese while in China?
