Career Plan Career choice Planning our career is very much crucial for obtaining sound growth and gaining higher income prospect in the future. A career plan will be helping me to contrast various career or learning options. I need to justify each choice in terms of growth and earning rate. I have observed that there are certain coaching and learning courses that are helpful in obtaining relevant skills and knowledge for my career choice. In the US educational system, individual students are taking training for different types of training in order to gain more competencies in building career. Such courses are brushing up relevant knowledge set in admitting in various graduate degrees (Ellonen and Natti). First and second choice career My career plan will be emphasizing my career options in two different sectors. I have bachelor’s degree in management and marketing. Thus, my first career development will be advertising, promotions and marketing management and the second choice will be a management consultant. Second career option will be requiring certain knowledge on human resource management and value chain development. I need to develop my skills in the HR and operational management section (Fogg, Harrington and Harrington). I have selected marketing management career as it is having higher potential of remuneration and salary. During the year 2012, I observed that this job opportunity will be providing a median pay of nearly $115,750 for each year and hourly wages recorded as $55.65 (Bls.gov). In addition, minimum entry-level education required for such job is bachelor’s degree in marketing and sales. The industry recruits both the fresher and experienced candidates. Therefore, being the fresher or entry level candidate, I am able to enhance my practical knowledge with the help of the effective occupational roles and responsibilities. Such career option does not demand any sort of on-the-job training. After exploring the job opportunities in the US region, I observed that there are almost 216,000 vacancies during the year 2012-2013 (Bls.gov). During the period 2012-2022, the number of vacancies will increase in the upcoming decade. It is forecasted that almost 12% increase will be observed on marketing and advertising management vacancies (Bls.gov). Almost 25,400 new recruits are observed during that period. Major duties of marketing and sales managers are to develop advertising and promotional strategies for any products and services for generating customer interest. Such career option is demanding collaboration with various sales representatives and financial analysts (Bls.gov). On the other hand, I observed that nearly 24 percent existing advertising and promotions managers are working under various advertising agencies during the year 2012. 16 percent recruitment of marketing managers is laid in the companies and venture (Bls.gov). I need one bachelor degree in order to gain competency for becoming marketing manager. I have to execute proper financial planning strategies, innovative marketing strategies, sales planning and competitor’s analysis. Median of yearly salary of the advertising and promotions managers reported as $88,590 during the year 2012. On the contrary, median of annual salary of marketing managers reported as $119,480 (Bls.gov). Typical working hours of such job role are 30-40 hours per week. In my career, development plan job timing need to be designed very well in order to select best possible alternative. My parents were ethnic Americans, but they used to work fewer hours than the worker of current market. However, it has been observed, Hourly rate of work of the Americans is highest in the world. Our closest competitors are the Bulgarians (Ellonen and Natti). In comparison to the Japanese workers, our society influences us to work nearly 100 more hours early. We work for more than 2 ½ weeks extra. We also have the potential of working more than Germans; I observed that, yearly Americans work for 500 more hours (Bls.gov). I am concerned for my social and family life so, selection of working hours is crucial for my career plan. Moreover, I will be contrasting factors like job satisfaction, individual lifestyle, and area of development for increasing career opportunities (Fogg, Harrington and Harrington). I will be seeking for variant satisfaction factors like appreciation of the work I have done, friendly relationships among me and my colleagues, sound work-life equilibrium, interactive superiors, financial steadiness in the organization I am working. In addition, I will be more satisfied if my organization provides effective learning and career development policies (Konig et al.). I will be looking for proper job security, lucrative gross salary, job roles as per my existing skills and knowledge in order to work efficiently. In my career plan, I need to cooperate with different lifestyle traits in order to select the occupational timing. My family relationship status is somewhat different than the other Asian and European students. Both of my parents were working for a long time and they are not dependent on my income. On the other hand, I have learned different work ethics while interacting with them in a casual manner. I have learned the values of time punctuality from my parents and I use to reach any place before the time of appointment. I inform the other party by making any call to the other party (Lim, Rajah and Chong). My family goes for a walk in every morning, so I will be preferring normal day shift jobs. Social factors are maintained by me very well so that I can interact with my co-employees, teachers and lecturers of my educational institutes and my family and friends. I attend various social meeting with my parents, family members and relatives. It will help me to increase my ability to meet the official persons. Weekends are one of the most important social recreational factors that I consider while developing my career plan. As my parents are still working, so, in the weekend I like to spend more time with them. Moreover, I am a sports lover, so I will be planning to arrange my hangouts on those days only. Therefore, I will be selecting the organizations who allow weekend leaves. I think recreation is required to keep me stress free and make me more efficient (Lore). In my career plan I would like to outline the potential work place stressors. Overload can develop stress in me for unrealistic time limit and expectations of the management. Complex technology, uncontrollable workloads and least number of staff for urgent jobs are creating stress. Moreover, control of the management also creates certain amount of stress among the employees (Regev). Least control over operational activity, decision making regarding organizational process, ignoring innovative ideas of the staff and proposal regarding the development of job attributes will create stress among the entry level employees like me. I will be requiring proper guidance for achieving the performance targets set and lower time for executing jobs will be increasing stress (Schreurs et al.). On the other hand, work relationships will get hampered by violent management style, lower supportive organizational structure and isolated work process will be increasing stress in me. Leaders must have proper understanding of our traits otherwise they will lose control over us. Leaders and management have to disseminate work pressure properly among the employees. I will consider job security traits highly so that I can increase my satisfaction and increase efficiency. Job insecurity increases when I will be employed as a temporary employee, on the other hand, fixed term contracts are increasing job security. Factors like potential job alteration, fear of redundancy among the skilled professionals and inappropriate work-life balance will be causing various stresses among the employees (Vujii et al.). Extensive working hours are the potential stressor. I will be feeling more stressed if I have to work additional hours which reduces family time gradually. I need more time to meet the personal, associating and family relationships demands. Thus, I will be avoiding the extensive and rigid job schedules, unsocial job timings and excess traveling time. I will also ensure that the employer will not interfere in my personal life. I am planning to have long term development of the career, thus, I will be looking for the higher study courses. I am a graduate in marketing and administrative subjects thus I will try to get in a course of any professional school. Such courses will be helping me in achieving masters degree and develop proper control over my career growth. Further, career development plan of mine will be emphasizing on the Post graduation degree in management (Bls.gov). While pursuing the post graduate degree, I can use my job experience. Moreover, I am planning for the assistance of various institutes which prepares me for the professional course admission exams. I will be taking admission in Stanley Kaplan institutes for the graduate admissions tests like GRE, MCAT, and GMAT (Bls.gov). Works cited Bernstein, Mark. "10 Tips on Writing the Living Web."
