NO matter what developing countries do, they will always be less developed than the West. Developing countries, such as those in Africa or SoutheastAsia, generally have a lot more resources than developed countries. This makes developing countries an attractive place for Western countries to invest in. Because developing countries do not have much wealth, they are often forced to bow to the demands of developed countries’ demands. This used to be common for colonial powers in previous centuries.

Once colonies fell across the developing world, these Western powers had to leave behind all that they had invested. However, they returned before long. Instead of coming back like before, they came in the disguise of corporations and investors. These organizations, such as McDonald’s and Coca-Cola, invested billions of dollars in the developing world. The reason for this is so that these companies can control the inflow and outflow of money from the particular developing country. The purpose of this has been to exert power over developing countries by forcing them to purchase only a particular product.

Although there are money problems in the Western world right now, developing countries are suffering even more. Because they don’t have influence over the major financial decisions, they are left to the mercy of the developed countries. These countries only care about their own self-interest and do not show concern for developing countries. Although they may claim to help developing countries, they are actually stifling them by preventing growth from occurring with the countries. Developing countries do not have much infrastructure, so when a Western corporation comes in wanting to invest, the general opinion is to take the deal.

Any agreement that is made is often weighted in favor of the developed country because the developing country has no bargaining power. For all the reasons mentioned above, developing countries always remain less developed than the West because they do not have the ability to improve themselves. One reason in particular why this happens is due to corruption. There is corruption is every country in the world; however, it is more common in developing countries. This is due to a lack of education among the local people and also the feudal systems that have been imposed by the elite in developing countries.

These people have no incentive to change the system because they are the only ones in developing countries who are benefitting from it. Corruption is something that holds developing countries back, so this is something that needs to change before developing countries can progress. However, unless the people take a stand, this will continue on for the foreseeable future. I feel that developing countries will always remain comparatively poor because there will always be corruption. If developing countries are to progress, then they need investment in infrastructure and education.

The two things are the keys to economic success because it will lead to greater wealth within the country.
