Assignment: homework 8 Question one: The story relates to media freedom and the decline around the world with the United States indicating a major decline. The media report suggests that for the year 2013 according to the media survey, the media freedoms are slowly going down and this could affect the media abilities and works. Media freedom as per an interview with one of the media personalities indicated that the freedom decline was happening for the second time in History. The study indicates that the U.S media has gone down maybe due to the performance of the other countries. Media freedom indicated through the treatment of media personalities during their works. Listening to the story provides an insight into the happenings of the world and the picture of the statistical importance to the students. The use of statistics in detailing happenings and creating awareness of the occurrences of the world builds information bases that may prove vital in decision making over the years. The material also educates students on problems to expect in the media and the aspect of media freedom. How the freedom has developed and the way the world is responding to it. Considering the U.S as one of the major countries where media freedom has taken center stage for years, detailing the direction of the freedom to students in a 435 class helps create awareness and prepare the next generation of media personalities and policy makers in handling media aspects. As a way of creating awareness of the aspect and keeping the populations close to the happenings of the world, the material provides a useful platform. PART ONE: Question two: Capital one is a financial institution that provides financial services to the customers. The bank offers loans, investment opportunities, and banking services. It offers its services to both the large fortune 500 companies to small businesses taking care of their financial needs. The company also handles transactions for its customers through cheques and other payment services. Capital one is in the financial industry and strives to maintain a good brand that reckons with all its customers in all possible ways. The company being a financial service provider competes with many other financial institutions ranging from the major international players to other local players. Barclays bank, Standard Chartered Bank among others are its competitors. Question three: A business analyst performs duties that engage analyzing businesses and ensuring that they are in position to operate and provides positive results to the investors. A business analyst tries to establish the position of the business and find possible solutions to business solutions. They analyze and interpret the situation at hand and provide possible solutions. I will be prepared to be a business analyst at Capital One. A business analyst position provides one with a good experience with business situations making it possible for one to understand in details the needs of a business and the actual provision of the necessary support. Question four: As per the information on the website link provided, it appears as if Capital One is hiring a business analyst. The positions are available in Mclean Virginia and Plano Texas. Business analyst positions available all consider an analyst development program. One notices the job description of the position available, the qualifications needed including the provision that one qualifies if they are in pursuit of a degree or already have one. The advert considers the fact that all applicants need to consider the opportunity, as an internship opportunity and they will need analytical skills in managing the opportunity. Question Five: Including the SAS aspect for such results into a number of job positions among which include Junior Business Analyst, Junior Business manager (analyst), principal quantitative analyst, business manager, Sr. Statistician and manager model validation among others. The link drives us to a connection of jobs that are related to analysis either directly or indirectly. These jobs are spread over the United States and in different regions in the country providing opportunities to many students and in different universities all over the United States. Question Six: The position of data analysts is available at the bank (Capital one). A data analyst’s role is the provision of support to the tech team for the analysis of the data collected and ensuring that it is safely stored and kept from damage or misuse. Access to data in such classification needs protecting and therefore the position is one the company will only offer an employee after scrutiny and ensuring that it is for the right reasons. The person must be qualified for the job. Based on the requirements of the company, I would qualify for the opportunity. Data mining techniques, testing the effectiveness of the different channels used in marketing and optimizing ATM placement made possible through advanced data exploration are all functions of a data analyst. These are all part of the data analysis content of many business courses. Question seven: Capital one has internship programs that have students from different universities come obtain experience in a real business environment that provides them with an opportunity to meet real customers that could provide them with employment opportunities overtime. The internship program also provides the students with a chance to test their skills in a real business scenario making it an experience easy for them when they get to real employment. PART TWO: Question eight: As the age increases, the percent childless decreases meaning that the more mature on is the less the chances of remaining childless. Considering the age bracket of 15 to 19, a person is still so young and not yet ready for child bearing or the provision of taking care of a family. The following ages find it more difficult to live without or due to circumstances and exposure obtain children hence getting off the childless group. Question nine: The white alone non-Hispanic indicates the childless number is more in this group than many others based on the percentage are. In real situations, all the races are of considered indicate an average of 44 in relation to childless, which indicates a population that is childless in the community. Question ten: A number of the population that is childless and never married weighs most. This indicates that many people are childless when not married and once married they consider getting children. The people childless yet with a husband weigh least. This is occasioned by challenges in getting pregnant or maybe young marriages that have not yet considered having children. Question eleven: Looking at education, the percentage of people that are childless and out of with high school qualification is low meaning many at this stage have children. Many people that are in the group not a high school graduate are childless which is understandable since many are young and still enthusiastic about pursuing education. Question twelve: Those in the labor force field are expected to have children compared to that outside since they have security and are in position to care for a family. Considering the statistics, the large percentage of the childless are unemployed and for this job security is considered. Question thirteen: The highest percentage of childless is that of people earning most. This statistic indicates that these people may consider themselves too busy to deal with children rising. Question fourteen: The dependent variable is the drive that is bringing the graying audience back into the need to have movies watched. The most of the driving force is the free leisure time that is accumulating over the age aspect. The need to find something to keep them busy is driving them to watch movies. The age of these are either approaching retirement or already retired and need something to keep them busy. The independent variable is the populations of the graying that is returning to movies. The article is about the older generation slowly coming back into movies as a way of dealing with lone time provided by the old age. Question fifteen: The dependent variable implied in the case is the cavities in the babies that is brought about by the low vitamins in the mothers. The research report indicates that the low vitamins in mothers during pregnancy lead to cavities in children after birth. The independent variable in the case is the low vitamins that the mothers consume during pregnancy or the total effect that is associated with low vitamin D in mothers during pregnancy. The low vitamins affect the cavities of the baby. Question sixteen: The dependent variable for this case is the foul calling in NBA games. The fouls are called based on racial grounds that affect the way the whole games end or the racial aspect of the games. Calling fouls in a game is supposed to portray fairness since it aims at creating harmony in the games and ensuring that the games are peaceful. The independent variable is the racial aspect considered in calling fouls. Most of the referees consider ones race before calling foul making the game have divisions that could see many players attacked or the favored race have more privileges and the other race surfer. Question seventeen: Studying of skills is the dependent variable is the faring of the US adults while the independent variable since it determines how the US adults fare. The research aims at explaining the performance of the US adult and the effect that the study of skills has on them. The reasons why they fail to fair well and the considerations that would make them improve are part of the study. Question eighteen: The dependent variable is the performance of the adults in relation to the skills obtained during development. The independent variable is the skills developed.
