The cost of healthcare goes up each year almost as fast as the rising costs of gasoline and basic commodities. The insurance companies charge a premium to their policyholders to make money and they barely cover the medical expenses of those in dire need of their financial augmentation. Let's face the reality of our health care system, the government is not doing enough to help the American people because they do not know how they can do it. If the government seriously wanted to supply our nation with an effective healthcare system then they would borrow a page from our Canadian neighbors who give their citizens free healthcare since they charge them high taxes.

Since, according to certain sectors that have been debating the new government-mandated health care policy, there is a distinct possibility that the Obama healthcare plan will increase individual tax collection, why not try it out over here as well? The fact is that people pay taxes to help the government run the country. As such, our taxes pay the salaries of the community healthcare workers, build and staff our community hospitals, and help to fund government research in various healthcare fields.

While these various sectors earn enormously from our taxes, the people who pay for their upkeep get nothing in return. Even community hospitals require their patients to have insurance before they are admitted for treatment. Those without insurance, but are honest taxpayers end up getting mediocre treatment from an institution that he is helping to maintain through the taxes collected from him. That is not why community hospitals were created and that should not be the case for anyone who comes to them for treatment.

Community hospitals should stand for free or subsidized health care for all Americans concerned. By offering free healthcare, our growing elderly population will be able to seek the medical treatment that they need without having to break the bank every time or worse, going into debt every time they need to see a doctor or seek treatment. Aging is bad enough without the financial problems that accompany it. The elderly have paid their dues as members of American society by religiously paying for their taxes, social security, and Medicare, the least the government can do for them is pay for their medical treatment.

After all, it was their money that helped to keep the system going. Finally, one has to understand that offering free healthcare is the most basic service that the government can offer its citizens. These are the people who serve as the foundation of the future of our country. They have helped build a strong and wonderful nation through their tax contributions. They have paid their dues in terms of tax collection and the like. They took care of the government and its needs. Therefore, it behooves the government to give back even only a fraction of the lifetime that the citizen has given them.

The best way that the government can show its appreciation is by offering free healthcare to all those who religiously pay their taxes, social security, and Medicare memberships.
