Extract of sample "Robert Frost Poem The Road Not Taken"

The starting of the poem with “Two roads” indicates the two paths from which, he has to select one. Woods are usually green in color but Frost has made use of “yellow woods”. This indicates that he is unable to make choice between the two paths and the woods are somehow misty but with his description of the two paths, it is clear that he is able to see the two paths clearly. He faces the problem because he likes both paths. He wanted to choose both paths but he had to make a choice.

Farming and poetry were two passions for Frost. The “Yellow” color of the woods also indicates the crops, which can be considered imagery of a farm. He has to make choice between farming and poetry and he opted for poetry that was chosen by fewer people. He informs that he “shall be telling this a sigh” that he has taken one path and left the other. He emphasizes that every person in this world has to make choices and after making the choices, one always feels the absence of the second choice.

We take one path but wish for the other to be taken.
