The theme of slavery is evident. Twain's perception of slavery, as well as ideas on racism, has been on the debate. Twain considers himself as an anti-slaveries advocate and the book provides allegory explaining the consequences of slavery. Jim is a slave and he is used to demonstrating the humanity of slaves. Huck is a representation of natural life through freedom of spirit and his desire to escape from civilization.

He was brought up with no rules and tries to resist any form of civilization. However, Douglas forces him to civilization by wearing new clothes, learning the bible as well as giving up smoking. Twain seems to suggest that the uncivilized is desired and superior and portraits civilization to be corrupt and ought not to improve life. Morality and ethics are apparent themes in the book. Tom Sawyer shows his belief in a great deal of honor associated with thriving. Robbery is evident in the book.

Huck and Jim encounter robbers and are later focused to rob everyone they met. They end up becoming horrible thieves at the end of the book. They steal Jim and free him out of slavery that is an honorable act. Thus, the concept of ethics and honor and acting to earn them is an essential theme in Huck’s adventure.
