Jig is a person who quite often experiences mood swings and she happens to be motivated by her own thoughts and due to this she ends up in confrontations with her boyfriend throughout the story. For example: before communicating with her boyfriend in a bar she seems to be quite happy, but experiences frustration immediately as her boyfriend denies her belief that they can have everything they wish for. Jig seems to be quite naïve of a person and quite foolish as she happens to believe in what she is being told by her boyfriend and fails to take decisions on her own. For example: her boyfriend is of the idea that aborting the child will make them happy and she continues to hold on to that belief. In reality all the American want is to her to abort her child so he can continue to be with her without the burden of the child. Her own instincts keep on conflicting with the views of the American as she continuously keeps asking her boyfriend whether he will love her after she gets the child aborted and whether they will be happy after the abortion. She seems to be a person who cares less about herself and is quite carefree as she continues to drink heavily even when she is pregnant with a child. She is a person who gives precedence to her boyfriend’s wishes, rather than her own interests as she is having the child aborted only to see her boyfriend happy. Another important aspect of Jig is that she does not portray the image of current feminists that is promoted by the feminist movement. Today’s famines are expected to be stronger and have the ability to stand shoulder to shoulder with the male gender, but Jig is completely opposite and is portrayed as subordinate to the male gender. She appears to be in a state of confused thoughts and feels quite helpless. This can be seen as she ...Download file to see next pagesRead More

...16 October Authenti and Nostalgia in the Retro Fad of the Twentieth Century The fashion industry recycles styles every now and then, but somehow, many modern consumers are stuck with the retro mode. Their love for girdles, garter belts, and retro-themed movies, music, the arts, and literature continues to rage on. Reynolds, in Retromania: Pop Culture's Addiction to Its Own Past, questions this fascination with the past that stunts originality. In Retro: The Culture of Revival, Guffey believes that this obsession with the recent past can be analyzed from people’s existing doubts with modern society. The retro fad is brought too far, if it only represents a replication of the past, but this paper believes that modern retro...

... English Literature 28 November Pynchon’s The Crying of Lot 49 The of the main heroine is Oedipa, which is a reference to the quest for meaning, the quest that, like Oedipus’s investigation, turns against the person who started it. The more details she discovers about the “Tristero mystery”, the less she “knows”. Pynchon seems to pose the questions whether “knowledge” is so important and what is the nature of human inquiry; he does this in a very intricate way. The first theme Pynchon playfully addresses is meaning itself. More specifically, this is the conflict between the “high” understanding of meaning prevalent in the past and the polycentric notion of knowledge allowing for different “meanings” present in the Pynchon’s 60s... ... Closing the Word Gap Between Rich and Poor The achievement gap has always been there between the poor and the rich. Right from a very young age, there is a significant difference between the poor and the rich. This can be demonstrated by the word gap between infants from poor families and those from affluent families. The word gap is a term that was adopted in the 1990s researchers who found that infants of age three and below from poor families heard three million words less than those of the same age but from richer families (NPR Staff para 3). This lower exposure to vocabulary leads to poor performance form poor family children. Thus the performance gap in between the poor starts as early as immediately after birth. The main... Closing...

... November 26, Western Hegemony and the Subversion and Appropriation of African Culture and Resources in Achebe’s Things Fall Apart Several writers have used literature to challenge the dominant reading of colonial history and to assert that history has to be rewritten to ensure that it does not promote a Eurocentric ideology. Chinua Achebe challenges African history that comes from the colonizer’s viewpoints through Things Fall Apart. It narrates the story of Okonkwo, a man who both represents and undercuts African values and practices. He has a bad temper and resorts to violence easily, instead of following cultural norms and tribal rules. Despite these personal flaws, he illustrates African identity that values hard work... This is because full repayment of loans would reduce the amount of money flowing in the economy. This would escalate the interest rate as both the government, businesses and individuals would compete to use the little money flowing in the economy .The government would not adequately invest in infrastructure and event pay civil servants thus leading to an escalated level of employment. ...International Business Finance 9nstitution 2A Currency unions are significant in economies because they help in a number of ways. For instance, currency unions facilitate the reduction of transaction costs by traders and travelers across the different countries. This happens because it is cheaper to do business with a common currency instead of converting them into other denominations (Figge, 2010). Another pro of currency unions is that they might decrease interest rates, especially in transactions involving several countries. For instance, the variations experienced in currency values affect the interest rates in different countries.
