Extract of sample "Homer, Illiad"

This happens in a period when the great of troy was under the occupation of Greeks invaders who have been there for the last 10 years. During the occupation, Greek leader Agamemnon captures the daughter of Chryses who was a Trojan priest of Apollo. The priest offers wealth to the Agamemnon for the release of her daughter but Agamemnon turn down the offer (Sisti and Homer, 1985). Chryses pray for Apollo help and Apollo brought about plague in the Greek army. After 9 days of the plague, Agamemnon succumbs to the pressure and agree to release the priest daughter but vows to but Achilles to captive; this lead to a quarrel between Agamemnon and Achilles.

Achilles was angry with this hence deciding to quit the war against Agamemnon with his men and leave for home (Homer, 1986). At home, He told her mother Thetis to request the Zeus that the Trojan and Greek fight for the Agamemnon to know how important he was in the army. The fight was set but Paris offers to stop the war by fighting a duel with Menelaus. During the confrontation, Hector addresses both sides that Paris (Alexandrus) will fight Menelaus (Greeks) for a lady by the name Helen and her wealth, whoever wins the war will take Helen.

Achilles plan succeed and the war resulted in a heavy damage inflicted against the Greek warriors by the Trojan forces. After the death of Achilles closest friend Patroclus, achille return to war.
