Louisa May Alcott's contributions to the pharmacy are partly, if not totally, an offshoot of her role in providing healthcare until she became ill herself upon contracting typhoid fever.Probably most important of her contribution was her sheen disgust of treating patients as cases to be solved, just like how the doctors did during her time. For her, they should be treated like people, capable of feeling and thinking. Their death or suffering should not be dealt too objectively and without sorrow or compassion, as was the case in the hospital she worked in, but with caring and comforting (Alcott, 1863).

In developing therapeutics, we should not just look into solving the health problems of the afflicted individuals. But we should also consider the possible side effects and cost of treatment. More than treating the disease, it is first and foremost the duty of healthcare professionals to provide care and comfort. If there is great pain associated with the treatment, as is the case in certain chemotherapy of cancer, or if it costs too much, the industry of pharmaceutics should look into other possible ways for treatment.
