Such literature caters to the imaginative impulse, challenging the mundane and the authentic, and touches the psychological chords of the readers. The plot of the novels, particularly “The Tenant of Wildfell Hall”, is a pointer to the consequences of suppression of human needs. The author's ability to reach out to the intuition of the readers makes this genre interesting and acceptable. The author highlights fear which grips the life of every human being in one form or the other but its intensity depends upon the circumstances in which a human being is placed.
More correctly, it is part of the evolutionary process of a human being. The nature of fear may also be context-dependent. Anne Bronte is a skilled generator of empathy and that is the strength of this literary creation and her imaginings deserve universal appeal. Her psychological conceptions beat temporal and cultural borders and the writing style is not strictly ideological. She does not favor a particular ideology and as such her writing has a universal appeal. How does an individual turn cynical?
The novel provides the answer that it is due to the loss of companionship and love. The deep need for sociality is the answer to the majority of the negativities that have engulfed the present materialistic civilization. Companionship is as important as the need for sustenance as they are food for the soul and the body respectively. By strongly defending herself, Anne clearly revealed her working philosophy and she was not apologetic about what she depicted in the novel through her characters. She was Christian and humanitarian.
Christ in the heart was more important to her than a cross on the neck. She was not showy but realistic in her approach. I salute the guts of Anne Bronte to swim against the currents, meaning to write against the public opinion. It was an easy option to go with the masses and please all to get applauded. But Anne stood by her convictions and defended her literary frontiers. Thus, in this novel, we see a sensitive but resolute artistic mind at work in a confusing and adverse cultural climate and she intelligently chisels her characters some of whom are rebels against the established societal traditions of the era.
THESIS Vampires have undergone metaphoric changes since their creation during the Victorian Era. From being mysterious creatures, they have donned the garb of the historians of the time and have transcended the gender roles. Having accepted the challenges of Popular Culture, now they are dynamic creatures in different incarnations. They are being depicted as the tools of individual heroism both in constructive or destructive assignments. They thrive in the contingencies of mass hysteria, fascist action plans, and acts of terrorism.
Generally, vampirism is devoid of a noble goal, and vampires are given time-honored roles as per the demands of Popular Culture. Vampirism has become the philosophy of Popular Culture like the political philosophies of Capitalism, Communism, etc.
