Both are concerned about the family and want to make the key decisions without even consultation with the rest of the family. Both are possessive and are not willing to let go. Though the old man accepts her granddaughter to go with Steven, he does so with a heavy heart and emotion with “his throat clotted with tears and his lips trembling” (Lessing 2004). Miah is a total authoritarian; largely due to his upbringing. He refuses Miah to take up the role in the play with no apparent reason. Jolil is aware that despite insisting like any kid would, his father would not allow him to participate in the play (Kress 2005). Nevertheless, the two stories also show us the caring and sensitive side of both characters. For instance, the old man accepts to let the pigeon fly “clenched in the pain of loss” (Lessing 2004). There is an incident where Miah is described as showing his sensitive fatherly character when he is seen looking worried and his gaze seemed to be engrossed afar from the wall he was gazing at. He compliments his son by telling him he is a good boy (Kress 2005). Both bring out similar picture of family relationship in that men make decisions while the women are only to be seen and not heard. All women are submissive and none of them comments or participates in decision making. In the two stories, men considerably dominate over the women. Both stories show that they are in an English setting though the time and era vary.In flight, some of the most prominent features of the setting are the wooden porch at ...Download file to see next pagesRead More

Destiny in Human Life in the Films Grand Canyon, Ground Hog Day and Christmas Carol

Should the U.S Navy Be Required to Standardize the Flight Operations Quality Assurance

This factor points to the increased role of data regarding operations and quality of the flights. It requires methods for detecting errors and capturing error contexts, as well as methods for reducing errors and mitigating their effects. In the maintenance of flight safety data Flight Operational Quality Assurance (FOQA) programs are of special mention. “FOQA programs use flight data collected during a carrier’s normal line operations to reduce costs and enhance safety by identifying a variety of ‘exceedances’- deviations of important flight parameters from normal operating ranges. FOQA programs typically use commercial Ground Data Replay and Analysis Systems (GDRASs) to detect specified deviations, generat...

Exile, Loss, and Alienation in Walcotts The Schooner Flight

...Exile, loss, and alienation in Walcott’s “The Schooner Flight” 7 December This paper analyzes Derek Walcott’s narrative poem, “The Schooner Flight.” The speaker is a mariner mulatto, Shabine, who speaks as a poet and a “red nigger.” His diction, syntax, and choice of words manifest both his education as a colonized object and a subject-poet; he is freer as a poet and a mariner and more limited as a colonized object. The voice is conversational and narrative, at times detached, at times emotional, but always introspective. The poem also used sound and rhythm to reflect the sounds of the Caribbean’s ocean and the texture of their conflicted lives. The paper employs an eco-critical perspective and argues that the environment, both the nation...

The Issue of Supersonic Flight

This paper will trace the history of the development of SST with the aim of highlighting the main reasons why the supersonic flight has failed to attain mass commercial success since the project was commenced several decades ago.
Engineers toyed with the idea of SST throughout the 1950’s thereby ascertaining that the plane design could be achieved from a technical standpoint; nonetheless, it could not be ascertained with certainty whether the aircraft would be economically viable. The aircraft was seen as having the potential of increasing sortie rates greatly, particularly on long and medium-range flights that would sustain the aircraft in cruise for a longer duration; given that the SST travels at a speed that is at...
