Homosexuality in the USA has also been a subject of debate with many states recognizing homosexuals’ rights, while others still debating on the issue. The New York Times online issue of August 28th carried a story titled Same-Sex Marriage, Civil Unions, and Domestic Partnerships (http://topics.nytimes.com/top/reference/timestopics/subjects/s/same_sex_marriage/index.html?scp=1&sq=California%20Court%20Weighs%20Proposition%208&st=cse). The article talked in length about the opposing views of Californian residents on same-sex marriage. The History News Network on its web site tries to trace the origin of America’s laws on homosexuality (file:///E:/291111/1539.html). Different careers in the USA have not been spared either, as well as people’s nationalities are not deterrents to being gay (Boellstorff 12-30). For instance, the Associated Press online issue of   Oct 27, 2011 carried a story titled Gay and lesbian military members sue US for rights. Apparently the US military does not condone homosexuality and any soldier fond in breach of this rule gets to be dismissed file:///E:/291111/gay-lesbian-military-members-sue-us-rights-192156780.html. In Wisconsin, the rights of homosexuals are not protected by the law and gay people there are suffering at work and in other places, where they are given derogatory terms and harassed at work. As reported in thinprogress.com, the current governor intends to right these wrongs if reelected for another term in office (http://thinkprogress.org/lgbt/2011/11/28/376864/walker-appointee-wisconsin-law-doesnt-protect-gays-from-harassment/). The Durham News on 25h October 2011 published an online article titled ‘Presbyterian Church drops exclusion of gays and lesbians’ by its correspondent Flo Johnston. The article covered news on the various churches that had decided to embrace homosexuality among its clergy and congregation (file:///E:/291111/presbyterian-church-drops-exclusion.html). On November 28th 2011, the Village Voice Blogs posted an article on their website titled ‘Ruben Diaz Sr. Calls Black Friday a 'Blessing'’ in which they reported that Senator Ruben Diaz had lost his war against gay marriages in New York (file:///E:/291111/ruben_diaz_sr_c.php.htm). In The International News website, there was posted an article on how the US diplomats in Pakistan held a gays and lesbians party in Pakistan. This further emphasizes the fact that the USA is keen on embracing homosexuality even beyond its borders. The online article, posted on the site on Sunday, July 03, 2011 by their correspondent Mehtab Haider revealed that this was done despite heavy protests against homosexuality in the Islamic country. (file:///E:/291111/TodaysPrintDetail.aspx.htm). Age differences or age itself is no deterrent to same sex relationships (Kulick 15-25). The New York Times online issue published on November 25, 2011 and written by Abby Ellin, titled ‘Vows Gail Marquis and Audrey Smaltz’ was about a lesbian couple that got married at ages 74 and 56 respectively, to each other. (http://www.nytimes.com/2011/11/27/fashion/weddings/gail-marquis-and-audrey-smaltz-vows.html?_r=1&ref=samesexmarriage). Argument for Right for Gays to Adopt in Virginia

In today’s society, there are more than 500,000 foster children waiting to be placed in stable, caring homes (Ruggeri, 29). There is a shortage of people who fit the broader social norm, this being the heterosexual individual or couple, to assist in the adopting process. Because of different political and social division that is present in society, many homosexuals are not given the opportunity to adopt these foster children or any other youths that have been put into the adoption system. Homosexuals, whether coupled or living in individual households, often face pressure from defiant ethical supporters and their social peers because of their lifestyles. When coupled with laws designed to prevent them from attaining equal st...

Should Gays be allowed to serve in the military

The “don’t ask, don’t tell, don’t pursue policy is one the policies in the USA that cannot be overlooked in such a debate. The question therefore, is whether it is a good policy or not. It is important to look at several views whether this policy harms or boosts military readiness. The other factor is the impact of this policy on the morale of military, whether it harms or boosts troop morale and unit cohesion or not (Berlatsky, 2011).
In addition, I think it is significant to look at service compatibility aspect; this tries to deduce if in any case being a gay is compatible with military service. The other factor is whether ‘the don’t ask don’t tell policy’ has improved military retention and recruitment or whether it has har...

I intend to target the wider population against equal opportunities and rights of gay couples as they are biased in their views and judgments. I intend to persuade them on rethinking...

The legal developments regarding same-sex marriages have elicited a debate on whether or not a constitutional amendment is required to make these marriages legal. It is necessary to have a constitutional amendment to allow gays and lesbians to marry so as to accord equal rights and legal benefits to all citizens. Same-sex couples need to enjoy the equal protection as enshrined in the constitution. In order to ensure that these rights are protected, it is necessary to have a constitutional amendment that allows for same-sex marriages (Kellard, 2012...

Gay, Lesbians, and Mental Illness

...Gay, Lesbians, and Mental Illness It would seem homosexuality has come of age; it has its own plethora of mental illnesses as any other deviant group in existence. The purpose of this study is to ascertain whether homosexuals being what they are, have a tendency to suffer from mental illness of any kind. Curiously, there is an ironic twist to this enigma which in itself is a little problematic in nature. It appears that the topic in question itself is highly controversial, to say the least. It is often assumed that gay people being a deviant minority are susceptible to the aberrations, both physical and mental in nature, that are not generally prevalent in conventional relationships. There is a belief gaining momentum in certain circles...
