Abortion: Different Sociological Theories 1. Introduction The provisions associated with abortion have long been witnessed as one of the highly debated issues in this contemporary world. In relation to the controversy of women’s decision for terminating pregnancy, it can be viewed that different contentious aspects create various questions or doubts concerning the debate of abortion. The present sociological debates associated with abortion significantly nurture severe controversial arguments against the law that protects women’s decision to dismiss pregnancy. Keeping with the greater pace of controversy regarding the governmental laws that tends to protect women’s decision to terminate pregnancy, the primary focus of this report is to demonstrate arguments concerning the abortion issue by taking into concern different sociological theories. Moreover, the discussion would also include identifying family policy related issues through interviewing victims who have experienced the adverse effect from the law associated with abortion. And finally, the report will be concluded with stating appropriate recommendations that might improve the current policy and the regulation of the significant concern of abortion by a certain degree. 2. Brief Overview of the Selected Family Policy Issue From the time when significant decisions have been taken concerning the cases of Roe v. Wade and Doe v. Bolton in the year 1973, the US Supreme Court had enacted a framework of the nation’s abortion law. In relation to the policies and the regulations that tend to protect women from the decisions of dismissing their pregnancy, various consequences can be apparently observed relating to the healthiness and safety of the women of the nation. The provisions under the abortion law constitute different policies for the states and they are integrated into dissimilar policy measures. The major aspects underneath the policy measures of the US abortion law generally embrace hospital and physician requirements, gestational limits, “Partial-Birth” abortion, public funding, insurance coverage, state-mandated counseling along with parental involvement and waiting period. It is to be stated that in this similar context that the notion of protecting women from abortion can create significant issues associated with health and wellbeing along with different inevitable distress (Guttmacher Institute, 2013). 3. Critical Review of Different Scholar Articles Associated with the Impact of US Abortion Law According to various research reports and academic articles, it has been viewed that the provision of protecting women of their decision concerning abortion imposes substantial impact upon physical and psychological improvement. Moreover, the policies within the abortion law also deciphered certain significant policies and regulations that can create challenges to the political system of the nation by a greater level. In this regard, a political debate associated with the US abortion law can be witnessed concerning the provisions for protecting women from their own decision of aborting pregnancy (Botkin, 1998). Moreover, ethical issues can also be considered as one of the major factors that impose extensive impact upon the enactment of different provisions relating to abortion law. In this context, ethical debate concerning abortion generally involves the issue of appropriate right of the fetus which is significantly snatched by the law by providing adequate right to the women to abort her pregnancy. Therefore, it can be stated that the provision of providing rights to abort pregnancy raises significant discriminative aspects abolishing the moral as well as the belief of an individual at large. In this regard, the US abortion law significantly raises unabated ethical issues through providing right to the women concerning their abort of pregnancy (Gensler, Spurgin, & Swindal, 2004). Relating to this particular subject matter, psychological aspects can also be regarded as the other major issue that is associated with the abortion of pregnancy of the women. The ethical debate concerning the US abortion law is often viewed to be a widely accepted subject in the present human development perspective. In this regard, the religious belief has considerably depicted the appropriate moral implication concerning the issue of abortion. The religious viewpoints often argue the practice of abortion and also protect the right of women towards aborting their pregnancy (Grisanti, 2000; Marquis, 1989). 4. Applying Sociological Theories Associated with the Issue In accordance with the observation of different academic and scholar articles, it can be apparently viewed that the provision of enacting abortion policies in the US raises unabated issues in relation to ethics along with religious beliefs. In addition, the policies protecting women rights to abort their pregnancy further creates unrelieved concerns with respect to various sociological aspects. With regard to the aforesaid discussion, the US abortion law can be viewed to raise different physiological, ethical and religious controversies. However, in the context of sociological aspects, the law deciphers a severe scenario for women in terms of aborting their pregnancy. It has been viewed that the sociological theories provide concrete base towards the adverse effects of abortion by a greater level. The provision of protecting rights to the women of taking their own decision for abortion raises different societal issues with regard to the development of macro-sociological environment. In this context, the provisions of the US abortion law can generate significant obstacles relating to human physiology and psychological development. Owing to the stated concern, the practice of abortion can severely impact upon the physical development of women and it can also formulate adverse effects on their psychology. In relation to the observation from different statistical reports, it can be apparently observed that the majority of the states along with the communities within the US prohibit the law of protecting women to abort their pregnancy. In this regard, it can be stated that the phenomenological aspects of the US communities argued to comply with the provisions and the policies regarding the decision of the women to abolish their pregnancy (Grisanti, 2000; Marquis, 1989). 5. Current Statistics The current statistics with respect to the issue concerning abortion can be better understood with the help of the following pictorial illustration. Professional Interview In the context of teenage pregnancy, it has been viewed from the statement of ‘The National Campaign to Prevent Teen and Unplanned Pregnancy’ that teenage pregnancy is raising extensively in the US. This age group of women i.e. teenagers is often witnessed to abort their pregnancy considerably in a higher rate as compared to the other age groups. The scenario has been occurred within the communities due to the unaffordability of being a mother in teenage, avoid to change their lives by giving birth an infant and not feeling that much of matureness or responsible to nurture a child. b. Personal Interview with the Victims i. In accordance with the survey associated with the adverse effect of abortion, it has been observed from the statement of “X” that the practice of abortion raises different issues relating to the physiology and psychological changes. X also argued that the abortion in the teenage have brought cruel effect on her family and raised considerable sociological issues. ii. “Y”, an independent professional had also argued regarding abortion. In this context, the decision of terminating her pregnancy caused her physical inability to conceive child in future. 6. Conclusion It has been apparently observed from the overall discussion that the provision of protecting women towards making decisions of eliminating pregnancy impose significant impact especially on human development. Moreover, by taking into concern the real-life examples along with the statement of ‘The National Campaign to Prevent Teen and Unplanned Pregnancy’, it can be recognized that the governments should highly emphasis the development of the US abortion law to protect citizens from different obstacles that rise from the issue concerning abortion. Moreover, the present statistical scenario of abortion has also reflected the brutal effect of abortion in different states of the US. In this regard, the adoption along with the execution of effective and strong measures can support the nation in curbing or lessening the adverse effects of abortion by a considerable level.
