Name: Professor: Course: Date of Submission: Measures for Improving the Quality of Information within Organizations’ Systems Information systems play an important role in supporting organizational goals, and many information systems are designed to improve performance-driving aspects of the companies. Many organizations have focused on the improvement of productivity and the quality of services through implementation of information systems but with limited focus on the quality of information within the organizations’ systems. Although, many firms have identified the importance of information for the success of their business operations, very few have established effective ways of managing the quality of the information (Stair, Reynolds & Reynolds, 2008). Different technological aspects including users’ satisfaction with the computer systems and the quality of information generated by such systems may influence the success of an organization. The impact of information systems on the success of an organization is dependent on the quality of the systems and the resulting information and implementation. Databases and data warehouses have become essential parts of information systems thereby their quality directly influencing the integrity of information within the systems (Piattini, Calero & Genero, 2002). Giving research in the realm of information systems for progression of business enterprises is a worthwhile scholarly rationality, especially in addressing the various measures required to ensure quality of information within an organization. Additionally, research and review of relevant literature in the context of information and organizational performance improvement unveils the edged advantages ingrained in technology for business ventures and income generating events such as the Olympic Games. Necessary Measures According to Al-Hakim (2007), a comprehensive information product quality strategy is crucial to the successfully improve and monitor the quality of information products. The information technology products’ quality management strategy should form an important part of the analytical requirements applied in the development or modification of the information systems that generate information within an organization. In order to ensure improved quality of information within an organizations’ information system, the entire process of designing the conceptual model, system specifications, database implementation throughout software engineering, hardware selection, and testing and the maintenance phases of the information systems should be guided a quality strategy. Improvement of the quality of information within an organizations system can be achieved through continuous monitoring of the system’s output to determine whether the generated information meets the quality standards and the demands of stakeholders and customers. Through the continuous monitoring process, information quality gaps can be easily identified to facilitate timely realignment of the system with the organizations’ expectations and specifications (Piattini et al., 2002). The continuous monitoring of the information system is crucial measure in ensuring progressive improvement of the information quality generated by the systems. Improvement of the quality of information within an organization’s system can also be achieved through implementation of an effective information system management strategy. The management strategy should involve appointment of qualified information system managers as well as data quality managers. The Information system management team should be able to control the input as well as the output in order to ensure that the information generated from the system is of the high integrity and standard. The portfolio of data management is essentially the core of proper information supported development and organizational excellence. Data managers play an important role in ensuring that the data fed to the information system is accurate and updated in order to improve the quality of the information generated by the information system (Stair et al., 2008). The validity and reliability of organizational decisions is a function of the baseline information on which they are coined, which underlines the importance of having properly managed institutional database. Capturing of relevant information to an organization should be a primary priority for the data managers in order to ensure the right information is generated by the system. Identification of several data managers in every department in an organization is important in ensuring that the expectations of the departments are met, and important data generated by the departments form part of the information generated by the overall organization system. Data managers should perform regular database checkups to ensure that the right information is captured and stored in the databases. The data collection phase should be well managed to ensure accuracy, validity, and reliability of the information in order for the information generated by the information system to be of the required quality (Curry, 2010). Implementation of a formal System Quality Assurance (SQA) is also another important measure that can lead to improvement of the quality of the information within an organization’s system. The system quality assurance is relevant in ensuring that system operations remain within a given quality standard generally acceptable to the organization’s stakeholders as well as meeting some if not all universal information quality standards. Standards of performance in the operation and management of the information systems should be established to guide the entire process in the organization. Benefits of Quality Information in an Olympic Games Event Information systems play a crucial role in facilitating successful hosting of an Olympic Event, which is an extremely demanding sporting event. An information system designed for the international event integrates numerous functions including performance data recording, spectator services, broadcasting services, crown regulation as well as security installation. Effective data management strategy is crucial in assuring quality of information generated by the information system applied in the Olympic event. Poor management of the data input and output in such an event can lead to disastrous effects not only to the hosts but also to other major stakeholders in the event (Schwarz & Hunter, 2012). The data capture in the actions taking place in the fifteen-day event must lead to generation of reliable and accurate information since millions of people view the activities across the world. In the case context, it would be extremely undoing to report contracting information owing to the fact that everything is done in open where spectators can make their own right judgments. Failure to ensure generation of quality and accurate information in the Olympics by deploying various quality standards can prove disastrous for the hosts especially in controlling and managing the spectators’ expectations. With the introduction of online ticketing for this event, the information system must provide accurate information in order to ensure effective controlling of the large crowds that turn up to witness the event. The just ended London Olympic Games was characterized by increased issues on the online sale of tickets (Piattini et al., 2002) .There was failure to effectively control the crowds with some spectators remaining outside the stadium while numerous seats remaining unoccupied. The online ticket selling as an important part of the events can lead to security lapses especially with the present terrorism threats. Failure of the system to capture important information about the people purchasing the tickets online can greatly undermine the safety of the people attending the games. Security has emerged as one the great concerns in any athletic event owing to the high number of turning up to witness such events hence the need for the information system to seal all information loops that jeopardize the security of the people. A custom sport marketing information system is also crucial for the success of the Olympics event because of its influence on the targeted audience. The marketing system should be able to generate correct, accurate and well-synthesized information to ensure achievement of the objectives of the sport marketing function, which is to attract as much audience as possible. Poor quality of the information generated by the system can lead to loss for the host government if the number of the targeted audience is not accomplished. According to Schwarz and Hunter (2012), a sport marketing information system implemented in any sport organization or event must show that the value of the information being collected, analyzed, and used balance with the cost of that information. Therefore, the management measure is crucial in ensuring generation of the information of the right quality by the system. The purpose of the sport marketing information system is to collect the various data available about the event for use in making effective and efficient marketing decision and must be well managed to ensure generation of the expected information. Information systems applied in previous Olympic events can be used to improve systems to applied in future events through identification of loopholes and weaknesses experience in such events. Conclusion Information systems have emerged to play a great roles in the demanding sporting events such as the Olympics owing to the various functions that have to be integrated to guarantee success in management of the global occasions. However, several measures are required to ensure generation of quality information of the systems including deployment of experts with the right skills to design, implement and maintain the system. Continuous improvement of the system is vital to ensuring quality of the information generated and requires scheduled monitoring of the system to identify any weaknesses or areas that require improvement. The system implementation process should be guided by a quality strategy and system quality assurance adopted. Failure to implement these measures can translate to disastrous effects on events such as the Olympics games including inability to control crowds, insecurity issues, losses to the host nation and general flop of the entire event.
