SubHub REQUIREMENTS SPECIFICATION Introduction There has been a growing need to improve the ways of offering knowledge in the field of academic. This has necessitated the need to explore a number of different options in the field of engineering and technology. Several systems have been put in place to act as substitute systems to the growing demands of students with respect to teaching. These systems have acted as teachers or on behalf of teachers thus making it easy to cope with studies in the absence of the teachers. In a bid to search for knowledge and the reliability of the teacher, a new system called SubHub is proposed by the teacher. This system is aimed at meeting certain goals and objectives. However, in any kind of software development undertaking, user requirements are always very vital as they dictate the final system functionality. These requirements also act as the design guidelines for the new system. The design prototype is then used to guide the programmers or the developers on what they should code and how the final product should look like in terms of meeting the user specifications and needs. The users of the above proposed system are mainly students of the class. The teacher feels that a new system should be designated. This system is thus bound to substitute the teachers. This is because having a physical teacher has a number of shortcomings that does not auger well with the smooth learning of students especially with regard to the expected standards of learning. The teacher therefore engages the students in an interview aimed at eliciting the requirements of the system and also trying to brainstorm a number of issues that comes as a result of the proposal of the new system. These include some of the benefits that students are bound to enjoy as a results of the adoption of the system and also the thought of shortcomings of the system. The students express their ideas in these interactive interviews where they cast their thoughts about the system and also raise a number of questions. The students also discuss the their expectations of the system functionality and overall structure of the system that is destined to offer some relief to the teacher while at the same time offering effective education process. These requirements will then be assessed by the system designer and then modeled in a way that can help a developer transform it into some useful information. The teacher has an aim of having an automated system for students in order to eliminate some problems experienced with the physical teacher. The system is a substitute teacher for the students. The teacher substitute teacher is expected to provide automated teacher services to students. The students are to be notified by the system on the availability of the substitute teacher. The system is build to last for the longest time possible and also be able to log into the system but not access the data in the system. They can respond to the needs of the students within a 30 minutes period. The substitute teacher will enter their data into the system that will be accessible to the students. The administrator will find a substitute teacher when notified by any teacher that they will be unavailable for a given class. The data in the system will only be visible to the system administrator. In a scenario where the system fails, the administrator will find a physical teacher though the system is not built with main focus on failure. The system is also aimed at taking into account various security issues faced by all data handling online systems like hacking and spoofing. Below are the objectives of the proposed system. Objectives of the system With students given a chance to seek knowledge on a number of skepticism surrounding the proposed system, the system should be built around certain set goals and objectives. These objectives will represent the ultimate user satisfaction as it will cover all the user requirements and the system requirements for the complete development of the system. With the system destined to perform numerous automated functions like notifying the administrator if there are no available substitute teachers within a span of thirty minutes, the following objectives are to be met by the proposed system. To provide find substitute teachers for students. The system is designed to help find substitutes for the teachers to help cover for teachers who aren’t available. To provide automated student-teacher services. The system is aimed at aiding the provision of academic services to the students. To find high caliber substitute teachers for the students. This system is aimed at providing best substitutes for teachers. To find a lasting solution for absent teacher trends. This system is aimed at providing an option in case a teacher defaults lessons. Description of the problem There are numerous factors that have lead to the development of the system. This is to take into account various issues that face students in their quest for high quality education. One of the above main reasons for the development of the proposed software is to address the need for substitute teachers in order to cover for the teachers who may not be in a position to attend lectures due to a number of reasons. Teachers are like any other person in the society and faces similar challenges that may prompt unexpected absence from classes. These may be reasons related to uncertainties that are common in the daily life of every individual. These uncertainties may lead to several inconveniences to the students in terms of lesson coverage. This software is therefore needed to offer solution to such problems. This software is developed to also to bridge the learning gap that may be created by teachers who are lazy and do not like to regularly attend to lessons. The software will act as substitute teachers’ hub where teachers seeking to ply their services with the institution on a substitute basis will register in the system. The administrator will find out the teachers who will not be available for classes and find a substitute teacher for the students in time. The available teacher will notify the teacher about their details which then requires approval of the administrator before they are deployed. The unresolved question in this system is the handling of situations where the substitute teacher is not found and there are no available substitute teachers. The system does not address this question. Use Cases This system offers a multiplicity of functions which provides a platform for communication between the school system administrator and the customers, substitute teachers. There are a series of activities that take place during this process which leads to the final goal which is finding and deploying substitute teachers. Teacher-enters details into the system SubHub-verifies the details provided then stores them in the database. Administrator-makes a request for substitute teacher. SubHub- system checks the available substitute teacher. -no teacher available, system generates an e-mail feedback -teachers available, system notifies the administrator Administrator-asses the available teacher then responds to it SubHub- sends response to the teacher if selected -Generates a system sorry message if not selected Administrator- deploys the teacher. Description of the software solution The proposed system is an online interface that is to be incorporated in the school’s website. The system will offer an interactive platform where the administrator can find substitute teachers for students in various classes in the institution. It has a registration form where potential substitute teachers. Once the teachers are registered, the system stores and keeps their details which the administrator uses to find the appropriate teacher when need arises. When there is need for a substitute teacher, the administrator issues command to the system to check the available teachers, the system then gives a feedback on the availability of the searched teacher within 30 minutes via the e-mail. If there is an available teacher, the system administrator then asses the potentiality and if deemed fit for the job, they are deployed. System takes and stores students report on teachers into the database and also generate reports on the substituted teachers and how they are performing the according to students reports. Read More
