Technology The growing use of newly emergent technologies is causing the world to undergo a series of rather radical changes. Technological innovations such as Google glass and iPads are quickly transforming the lives of both the individuals who create and design them, as well as the lives of those persons using them. Recent years have been witness to a number of advances that have changed how technology is designed to work, what it does and the impact that it will have across society. Google has recently launched the Google Glass which is basically a wearable computerized device that is fashioned and mounted in the same manner as optical lenses. As it is usefulness is gradually accepted, it is thought that Google Glass will soon be a common on the job feature that will greatly impact the workplace (Lazzarotti 2013). Numerous organizations have adopted a policy of bring your own device (BYOD) that is seen commonly seen to encourage and motivate their employees to adopt the use of different technological devices such as smartphones, iPads and in recent times Google glass in a strategy that is believed to help in increasing the general workplace productivity as employees are now able to access data and information in a faster and easier manner. Google Glass is designed to have video and audio building capabilities and it is thought that this capability will transform the workplace as employees will be able to capture important information on documents and in meetings in an easier and less obvious manner (Lazzarotti 2013). However, Google Glass will also have a number of disadvantages in the workplace in that, it is thought that Google Glass will cause employees to be keen to focusing on their Glass eye pieces as opposed to focusing on their managers, customers and co-workers. There is also the risk that Google Glass will potentially reduce the attention of employees and in the event that these employees are required to work on tasks that happen to require a rather high degree of attention such as the operation of machinery, or are engaged in driving, there is the possibility that the lack of concentration might have some very adverse effects in the form of accidents (Lazzarotti 2013). The use of both iPads is continuously increasing and this has helped in transforming the world in a number of ways. Some of these include the fact that persons with disabilities are able to easily communicate to waiters exactly what they need by using any of a number of special apps in these devices. As opposed to lugging around a number of giant text books when going to school, children can be able to easily carry a simple iPad that will provide them with easy access to millions of books. A number of schools and universities have announced plans to introduce the use of these devices in their learning programs by handing out new iPad tablets to their students (Heussner 2011). The use of print media has been decreasing at an alarming rate. Magazines and newspapers that continually have to struggle to develop innovative ways through which they will be able to keep their subscription numbers steady or even cause them to grow are now regarding the iPad as the one technological innovation that will help them in the attainment of this objective. It is widely hoped that the notably increasing use of this very interactive device will be of great help in causing them to win back their dwindling audiences and eventually turn a profit. The seriousness of this potential is demonstrated by the launch of The Daily which is a newspaper that was launched by Murdoch and is commonly touted as being the very first newspaper that is meant for iPad use only. The newspaper is quite innovative as is evidenced by the fact that in addition to containing the more traditional text stories, it is also designed to have dynamic graphics, interactive advertisements and video clips. Businessmen are able to use iPads in the same manner as laptops and the wifi capabilities on these devices can be activated even when they have been set on plane mode. This enables the sharing of important files between businessmen while on planes (Heussner 2011). The more traditional print outlets such as The New York Time and Wired magazine are also noted to be finding some level of success with their charging for content viewed using iPads as they continue to experiment with this new platform. The use of iPads has had a great impact on children as children nowadays are seen to not play with toys but instead opt to use iPads for their entertainment. These devices offer them the ability to easily play a number of different games. iPads have a number of educational apps that can help children in increasing their reading, math’s, writing and spatial reasoning skills. Parents are encouraged to buy their children iPads as these devices can help children in spending their time in what is considered to be a more educational and productive manner as compared to their spending time watching television and movies (Heussner 2011). While on one hand parents stand to benefit as a result of not having to engage in the purchase of too many toys, iPads have been noted to have a serious drawback as children are now becoming quite antisocial due to their tendency to prefer iPads to playing with other children. A number of children have also developed an addiction to iPads that has caused it to be a must for them to use them before bed. iPads also harbor the additional drawback of the fact that the material that children access using these devices is not always beneficial to them and in the event that it is of a pornographic nature, it can be seen to have some serious effects on children. To this end, it is very important for parents to ensure that they are careful to always control and monitor the material that the children access using iPads. Conclusion The impressive rate that technology and its use is changing our world is seen to be increasing at a very high rate. These innovations have caused it to be easier for us to perform some of the more taxing daily functions while enabling us easier and faster access to information. Although technological innovations such as Google Glass and iPads do have a number of benefits, it is of crucial importance to strictly regulate their use among employees that happen to be manning heavy machinery as well as among children.
