Computer Unit Recommendation Abstract Computers use has increased in their use in carrying out of business transactions, processing information and provides easy and efficient way of performing user tasks. The essay seeks to review three computer models in recommending the best for use as compared to the rest. The essay will emphasize on the various efficiencies and inefficiencies associated with each other, how they should be eliminated and made a conclusive recommendation if the best model to be used in these circumstances. Of the three models, each improves efficiency in various circumstances but for this situation we must analyze the design requirements, capabilities and user efficiency in use for the models. Computer Unit Recommendation Computers have greatly contributed to the success of many organizations. Computers play a great role in storing, analyzing and transmitting data that belongs to an organization. On the other hand, computers can also fail under certain conditions of use thereby causing unimaginable losses, inefficiency and sometimes total business failure. This means that an organization needs to be equipped with computers that will be able to meet its specific needs, taking into consideration the tasks that it should perform and the amount of data it must analyze, store and/transmit (Oja & Parsons, 2008). In selecting a computer for use in any situation, there should be various considerations put in place. One such consideration is the suitability of the computer to the particular task. Some computers are more suited for entertainment purposes. Such computers have big screens and support high graphics display. They usually give the user a very clear display especially when the user is watching a movie or playing games demanding high graphics capability. Such a computer has a clear audio output thus the user enjoys high sound quality leaving him/her very satisfied (Oz, 2008). The other consideration is the processing speed which plays a major role in determining which model of the computer to buy. The speed is the processing power of the processor and determines the speed with which the user tasks are processed. A user request may take unnecessarily long and others minimal time during processing. A high processing speed helps in the reduction of the time for the processing of user requests whereas a low speed will increase the time required for the processing of user tasks (Mandell, 1987). The other factor to consider is the ease of use of the computer model and ease of handling. This is of particular interest to designers in making sure that the users are satisfied by the design and style of the computer model. Some of the computer models’ touchpad are oversensitive thus they are not suitable for users who engage mostly in typing while other laptop models are heavy and therefore creating hindrances in the portability of the model. Laptops are designed in such a way that the user can place it on the laps while working on it. When a laptop model is heavy, the user will feel discomfort in using it thus making him/her unsatisfied with the laptop. There are other factors to be considered among them being the cost of the computer model, systems capabilities to be upgraded, compatibility with the latest software applications, battery life, accessibility to spare parts, operating system to be supported and connectivity as noted by Smith (2010). Review The HP G70-250US notebook PC has been described as one of the best models for use by novice users. This is so because of the large screen display, full size keyboard, light scribe direct disk labeling and the capabilities for displaying pictures clearly. The full size keyboard makes it efficient for the new user when learning keyboarding skills while the large video memory makes it possible to view clear pictures and videos. The light scribe disk labeling makes it possible for the new user to label the disk for easy storage, retrieval and referencing. As mentioned earlier, compatibility with the current IT technologies and applications is a determinant when one is looking for a computer model to buy. This model lacks the capabilities to handle the needs of the current software trends especially the Microsoft windows operating system. This hinders the needs for an innovative user who would like to embrace and take strides in the current technologies. However, the model allows installation of windows vista on it. It is also noted that the model is unsuitable for playing movies or music with high sound levels. Thus the user is forced to watch or listen to music on low volume levels therefore not satisfied with its use. The auto update capability in computers is very essential especially in terms of security. The users may not be aware of any software update and thus the system should prompt for update check or check the update from reliable online sources and prompt the user for installation. Despite all this, it is notable that the model is best suited for entertainment and media. The preinstalled software like HP Media Smart, media center and Cyber link DVD Suit Deluxe makes the model suitable for entertainment purposes (Notebookbox.com, 2010). The Dell Inspiron 15R laptop has a 15.5” screen that allows the user to read, at a time, two texts with comfort. It is thus suited for users doing serious work. The model is light and compact thus has no portability problems. The model is poorly suited for games but is a cheap, basic and reliable model. In terms of suitability to keyboarding, it is poorly designed as the keyboard sits on a wedge shaped base thus does not feel quite flat when using it. The design of the keyboard determines the speed and the tendency to make typographical errors during typing. The balancing of the load is uneven creating more problems for use in typing tasks. Compared to the HP G70-250US notebook PC, the model is poorly designed. According to Ackerman (2010), the laptop is rates 7/10 in terms of design, performance, features, service and support and 9/10 in terms of battery life. The price is reasonable and worthy paying for. However, the model can not be easily customized and has a lot of advertisement features. It is annoying for users to keep on performing each task which would be easily achieved through customization and personalization features. HP Pavilion dv7-3186cl is one of the most powerful laptops HP has on offer (It has a 2.26 GHz Intel Core i5-430M processor with turbo boost technology up to 2.53GHz, 4GB DDR3 system memory, NVIDIA GeForce G 105M, 500GB Hard Drive, 16.9 widescreen, and Integrated 10/100/1000 gigabit Ethernet LAN just to name a few (Hp, 2010). With these specifications users can achieve a variety of tasks quite efficiently. Such user tasks range from entertainment, games and picture viewing. The NVIDIA GeForce G 105M enable good display during gaming and playing movies. The 4GB DDR3 RAM enhances the systems speed and the 16.9” widescreen can allow for viewing of two texts at a time. Conclusion In conclusion, the HP Pavilion dv7-3186cl has proved to be more suited to several of the user tasks therefore the recommended one. Though the battery life is short and the mouse pad is oversensitive, the capability it possesses outweighs these defects and limitations. It is stylish, portable, does not overheat and affordable.
