LAN Networks The family I will recommend that they subscribe to a cable internet service provider and buy a wireless Concurrent dual band 802.11n router, a modem which will be the gateway for their network, a VoIP phone that can be connected to the router, and Ethernet cables to connect the modem to the router. They will connect all the devices including the internet enabled TV, DVR, and the game console through the wireless network. Print jobs will be sent over the Bluetooth network. They then connect the printer to the computer that is housed with it in the same room. The other computers share the printer through that computer. They will use the Ethernet cables to connect all the computers, DVR, VoIP phone, and game console to the network. They can then hook the router to the modem to connect to the internet. In this way all the devices can access the internet provided that the router is configured and allows them.
The justification for the above requirements is that the family is in possession of several devices that need internet connectivity. The recommended devices will make this possible. The modem is connected to the router so that the router access the internet through the ISP assigned IP address. This dynamically assigns each of the devices IP addresses thus enabling the m to access the internet.
The media used is wireless 802.11 for the network and 802.15.3 for the Bluetooth printer.
2. The enterprise
The enterprise-level company will require a large server room with several servers, routers, bridge, and network switches to connect to the several hundred business users of their network. Each device will connect to the switches via wired or wireless access. Wired access will include Ethernet cable, at least a cat5e twisted pair of the fiber optic Ethernet cable.
The network switch will be used for routing information from their network to the internet. The routers will be the gateway to the network thus will be used to connect the enterprise’s LAN and the internet thus giving them access to a good firewall. The bridges will be used to direct the traffic over the network.
The media used is also wireless 802.11.
3. Server applications
The three most common types of server applications are email servers, List server, and Telnet servers. Email servers are computers that keep records of each and every mail that comes in and leaves the network. List servers are computers that for the users or one way list that gives announcements, newsletters or even advertising. Telnet servers are computers that help the users to sign in to host computers and perform tasks as if they are working on their computers.
Even though the servers can be combined, I will not combine all of them. I will implement two servers and configure the email server and the list server into one server and let the Telnet server run on the other server. This is because email server and List server are corporate servers.
4. The Network devices
a) I will recommend a Time Warner Cable (TWC) modem because of its small size and the stand box so that can be connected to external cables so that the family can access cable TV as well as internet.
b) I also recommended a wireless printer to allow the users remote access to the printer. Users do not need to be physically connected to the printer in order to print. The printer is to be hard wired to the Apple Time Capsule
c) The recommended CAT 6 cables allow for full duplex communication. They are also important because they are scalable
d) The cable modem acts as the gateway to the internet.
e) The wireless router is used to connect all the computers and to the printer and other resources in the network.

LAN Networks

...LAN Networks al Affiliation) Question One There are a variety of transmission media formats but the core types are fiber optics, twisted pair cable, wireless and coaxial cables. However, the four mediums differ in a number of factors such as performance, bandwidth levels, security, management, noise susceptibility, cost (maintenance and initial purchase) and even other physical factors like the distance between repeaters to ensure transmission. A good example of their diversity is the type of applications they apply (digital or analogue), where the twisted pair cable is used in analogue voice platforms while the rest adopt a predominantly digital voice application. According to Cache et al., some of the...
