Impact of information systems Affiliation: One of the greatest values ICT had addedto the life of the people using it is increasing their productivity and saving of their time. A great example of this is carrying out online transactions such as purchasing products online instead of having that done physically. The positive impacts of ICT to organizations and schools far surpass the negatives and it is no wonder is growing at a very high rate on a daily basis (OECD, 2004).
The first element is the hardware which is the computer itself and any other physical machines aiding in the process such as communication and storage devices. Next is the software which is the computer programs. They are instructions readable by the hardware to execute commands needed. The other element is data which is fed into the hardware and executed into information by the software and is stored or printed out. The people are another important element of information system as they not only feed the data but participate in making the hardware and software used (Stair and Reynolds, 2011).
Information system leads to changes in the organization be it in its operation, culture or even in its strategies. These changes are what foster and increase in productivity as well as growth in the organization. However when it comes to people in the organization, the change is not as smooth and leaves a trail of hard work for the people. They do not feel the changes cumulatively and hence the impact may not be much appreciated by others (Stair and Reynolds, 2011).
