The Importance of Simulations Affiliation The simulation process includes various processes. These include definition, designing, constructing, analysing, as well as interpreting. It does not just involve just one experiment or a model execution on a computer. Simulation means mimicking through experimentation. However, it involves more than that.
1-Simulation has become part and parcel of human life. It is interesting how it is used in gaming. Individuals are used to playing tennis with the ball moving to the direction of both players on the bases of heating the ball towards ones’ opponent. It is interesting that with simulation there is even no need to train so as to play any game. They only need to be totally within the computer environment to play any game.
Another interesting part of simulation is how the whole concept works. It is hard to believe that something good can come out of mimicking. However, this is made to look more serious where one earns that simulation is not about imitation alone (Pidd, 2003).
2-In the case of any decision making type, the makers of the decisions will have to understand, plan, analyse as well as manage the system. These activities are involved in decision making. Typically, the decisions involve real systems comprised of complex methods with highly interdependent components that exhibit vulnerability as well as change over time. With the absence of a model, makers of decisions would make use of various processes for information gathering from a system that is real, process it and finally select an action which creates some change within the system. In general, model based decision making as well as simulation based decision making particularly do offer decision makers a way of investigating the system’s representation, use alternatives to experiment and then predict the proposed changes effects, that are external to the system. The approach does increase the decision space greatly. This means that it allows for the evaluation of many alternatives. The approach is not invasive on the system and allow for the assessment of risk of actions. For a decision maker to directly interact with simulation models effectively, models require to be entrenched in decision support systems, which enable data entering within the model as well as enhance the model’s output presentation (Pidd, 2003).
3-Some highly complex operations that benefit from simulation include transportation of raw material. Trains or truck, which transport finished goods or raw materials are scheduled as well as planned on the simulation basis. The same happens to warehouses within the same field. Patterns of traffic including sequencing of intersection lights get to be simulated for easing of congestion. Simulation has been used for long in rail roads in the optimization of freight length of a train against terrain, schedule as well as operating costs of the engine. Currently, operations in container terminals are being simulated for the optimization of large ships loading as well as unloading.
Another area where the technology of simulation is being used is in service operations. Ticket counters, banks, cruise line check in stations, amusement parks among others, not for getting airport security are areas that make use of simulation in the anticipation of equipment problems effects, open lines’ number and sudden people flows. Simulation today is being used to support planning healthcare facilities that are more efficient. Operating areas as well as clinic are the key targets for lower costs as well as improvement of quality services (Pidd, 2003).

Important Attributes in Entrepreneurship

...?Important Attributes in Entrepreneurship Pursuit of an entrepreneurial dream starts with a viable dream. Entrepreneurship begins with conceptualizing a new idea, drawing a business plan, and making decision concerning the legal structure. Additionally, basic tactics such as pursuing an international opportunity or starting a new business venture, and financing issues are also considered before one can embark on the entrepreneurship journey. Most people, who venture into entrepreneurship, prefer a new business rather than already existing business opportunities (Reuvid, 2008, p. 16). Some people begin with a desire to begin a business and then look for an idea while others start by having an exciting idea and then...

Reducing the lifecycle cost of oil and gas facility by use of simulation

...are confronted with situations where they need to make important decisions on whether to close down a facility or to change a business strategy. In such situations, the companies experience lifecycle costs that affect their production. Such companies can apply simulation models to determine whether they need to close down the existing facility or they need to improve its efficiency. Using simulations the managers of the affected companies can determine whether they need to adopt a new business, strategy or to modify the existing strategy to fit their operations. Secondly oil and gas companies continuously retire old facilities as they install new facilities, these processes costs the...

Discussion and Conclusions At the outset, the business is still in the market research stage and is trying to identify its customers (Burns, 2007, pp. 116-120). However, the sales effort is on and this is evident from the month end report for Jan-13 which indicates that business does a modest start with at...

... NIST Investigation on Collapse of WTC Building 7 The discussion around the official NIST investigation team on the WTC building 7 collapses shows their findings as emphasizing on the fact that the fires and plane crushes were the main cause for the collapse of the buildings. They continued further to explain that once the initiation of collapse had been initiated the global collapse of the structure was unavoidable. However, other analysts have deferred with this notion and they have categorically stated that the NIST investigation was incorrect since in their report there was no explanation on how the total collapse of the building occurred. As a response to the criticism NIST tried to provide a more technically advance... NIST...

Jean Baudrillard: Simulacra and Simulations

... Jean Baudrillard Introducing the idea of the simulation, Baudrillard says that we have come to a placewhere the false precedes the real. In addition to discovering that the simulation no longer matches the real, Baudrillard says it has gone farther, reducing everything down to miniature and making it hyperreal, something that exists in and of itself, with little to connect it to the original. The real, in this system, has become little more than a series of signs that stand in its place. Because simulation involves some portion of the real, it has become nearly impossible for the psychologist or the medical doctor to tell the difference. If some of the symptoms are present, is the person ill or are they merely simulating... ? It is a...
