Tejero and De La Torre assert that the use of electronic health records has been on the rise especially since medical agencies started implementing digital solutions into their platforms.

The authors point out that electronic health records (EHRs) are part of the most essential improvements in the health sector in patient care. The article points out that the motive behind the introduction of EHRs was to make patient care better but just like other technologies that handle personal information, EHRs face certain privacy and security issues. To handle issues of security and privacy, EHRs have been made with portable storage media when in use by patients outside the hospital. Access to the EHRs systems has also been made easy and safe for users.
