Research Agenda in Cloud Computing Introduction The introduction part of the paper or research is going to begin by giving a generally known definition of cloud computing as understood by many. Here, we will also talk about how this paper aims at giving a comprehensive or all-inclusive academic research review carried out in cloud computing and also highlighting the agenda of research that is being pursued by the academia. The introduction will also seek to lay down the path that the research is going to follow; that is the main points or things that the survey is going to touch on. Literature review Literature review section of the paper will examine the present or available data or information regarding cloud computing in general. This will be done by citing various texts and journals about the topic. The texts that will be used for the review include the following: Fellows, W.2008. ‘Partly Cloudy, Blue-Sky Thinking.’ About Cloud Computing. 451 Group. Grossman, R. L. 2009. ‘The Case for Cloud Computing.’ IT Professional, 11, 2, 23-27. Rittinghouse, J. W., & Ransome, J. F. (2009). Cloud computing: implementation, management, and security. Boca Raton, Fla, CRC. Buyya, J. Broberg, A.Goscinski. Cloud Computing: Principles and Paradigms. New York, USA: Wiley Press. HAMDAQA, M, 2012, Cloud Computing Uncovered: A Research Landscape. Elsevier Press. Vaquero, L, Rodero-Merino L, Caceres, L and M. Linder. 2009, A Break in the Clouds: Towards a Cloud Definition, ACM SIGCOMM Computer Communication Review 39(1), 50 – 55. Lagar-Cavilla, H.A., et al., 2009, SnowFlock: Rapid Virtual Machine Cloning for Cloud Computing, in Eurosys'09: Proceedings Of The Fourth Eurosys Conference. Assoc Computing Machinery: New York. Young, D, 2009, Governing, leading, and managing nonprofit organizations, San Francisco: Jossey-Bass, 1993. Methodology This study will require a survey of the available information or literature by the use of a methodical and principled approach; all the major databases of research for computer science will be searched, and these include the ACM Digital Library, the Google Scholar, the IEEE Xplore, the ScienceDirect together with the SpringerLink, for the key words such as cloud computing, Service Infrastructure, elastic computing, Service Software, utility computing, Service Platforms, the IaaS, Service Everything, the XaaS as well as the PaaS. Nevertheless, the range of information of data for this search will be limited from the year 2009 to the month of April 2013. This range of date is picked because the research is initiated in the month of April 2013. In addition, it is the best range because it is fairly long after the launching of all public clouds in the year 2005, thus there is adequate or sufficient data required for the survey to be accurate. For instance, the EC2 was first launched by Amazon in the month of August 2006, while the App Engine was launched by Google in April 2008. The term cloud computing, according to the Google Trends, began to become well known in the year 2007. After searching from the targeted five databases, we will find out the total number of papers returned. The paper’s abstracts together with titles will also be read, and for the purposes of quality, only peer-reviewed papers will be used for the review. However, only a very small number of the articles that are non peer-reviewed can be used, like summary of descriptions of a workshop that are well quoted and discuss the challenges of research that are being experienced by academia, if they are found to be relevant or appropriate and not matched by the peer-reviewed work that is comparable. Moreover, papers found to be having abstracts or titles that are misleading as well as those that have pure focus on High Performance Computing together with e-Science will not be taken into consideration during the review since the areas do not fall within the research topic. The selected papers’ citation references will be checked and if no additional papers are found to be essential or even necessary o be added to the review on the basis of the criteria that has been cited above; the resulting total number of publications will be selected or chosen for the review. The papers will then be split into three different categories on the basis of the major focus; the categories will include the general introductions, the organizational aspects and the technological features of cloud computing. However, the discussion of the latter category will be done elsewhere; while papers that offer general introduction s to the topic will be cited throughout the paper. The category of technology will be further be broken down into papers dealing with things like protocols, lessons from associated technologies, standards, clouds building and modeling technologies, interfaces, and the novel use-cases that come up via cloud computing. Definitions The industry of Information Technology has had a lot of debate as There has been much discussion in industry as to what cloud regards the real meaning of cloud computing. Loud computing as a term appears to have come from the computer network diagrams representing the internet as one of the clouds. Majority of the companies that deal in the field of IT as well as those that deal with market research have produced whitepapers trying to provide the meaning of this particular term. Therefore, this section of the research will attempt to give the definitions of various terms that are associated with cloud computing. Lessons from the related technologies This part examines the research describing the research’s technological features in cloud computing. It begins with an examination of the lessons that are to be learnt from the research’s related topics. Here, interfaces together with standards in cloud computing will be, and interoperability between various systems of cloud will be talked about. Then there will be a summary of the techniques used in the designing and building of the clouds; and these include developments in the management software, the provisioning of hardware, and the simulations that have been created or made for the purposes of appraising the choices of cloud management and decisions of design. This is then concluded by the presentation of the novel use-cases that have actually become feasible via cloud computing. Conclusion In this part we will present the summary of the whole issue of cloud computing and what has been found as regards its usage and application. We will present the published work by the academia community in the advancement of the cloud computing technology. In addition, we will talk about how much of the work has focused on the creation of standards as well as enabling interoperability, and also describing the ways of the building and designing of the clouds. Also the paper that gives the best definition or description of cloud computing will be listed and discussed here. Furthermore, we will see what the research has found about the socio-technical aspects of the cloud computing, which include the costs of the usage and building of clouds, the privacy and legal application that is raised by cloud computing, the security, and the cloud computing’s effect on the operations of the department of IT; while the technological aspects of cloud computing include lessons from the associated technologies, standards, use-cases that brought about novel technological possibilities enhanced by the cloud, and cloud interoperability.
