We feel that a move to 21st Century technology not only with hardware but with software as well can, not only make us more efficient, but more profitable as well. 5.2 Project Management Project Management is the carefully planned and organized effort to accomplish a successful project. Further resources will come from extra revenue allocated to help pay for the new hardware and software that will be used to help run the business. 5.2.3 Deliverables The deliverables coming to Hometown Deli will include the new automated inventory system which will allow the restaurant to be able to keep a closer track on their current inventory and what they need to order to make sure that they have enough supplies in the stores at all time. Furthermore, additional deliverables will include updates to the programs and hardware as well as supplies to help keep the store running at the technological peak performance. 5.3 System Development Life Cycle The Systems Development Life Cycle is a seven-stage process whose purpose is to identify the information technology needs of a business that is cost effective while also meeting the companys current and future needs. (Tate, 2008) 5.3.1 Planning Phase The planning phase for Hometown Deli allowed the owner’s grandson to find out that the restaurant was in dire need of updating for the 21st Century technologically. Thus, we decided that to bring in more customers and retain the ones that we currently have is to update the restaurant to bring out the best that it can be. 5.3.2 Systems Analysts Phase During this phase we checked out what would be needed in order to execute our plan in bringing Hometown Deli into the 21st Century. We found out that the whole restaurant would have to be rewired in order to handle the workload that we were going to need from the new networks we are going to establish within the restaurant to set up our Wi-Fi hotspot for our customers and the wireless network going to be used for our business needs. 5.3.3 Design Phase During the design phase we found the appropriate website which would allow us to acquire the point of sale (pos) equipment that we will need to operate our business from the overhead monitors in the back to the new cash registers to the computers needed to handle the day to day business. Also, included with the hardware is the POS program which would allow us to set up our entire menu as we see fit. Thus we realized that overall with the internet, wireless router and Wi-Fi hubs included would run us over $15,000 in equipment alone, but with all the renovations needed it would require at $50,000 - $100,000 total to renovate Hometown Deli. 5.3.4 Development Phase In the design phase we decide to go with a 4G speed when it came to the speed of the internet. Thus, this speed seemed very acceptable to us. We decided on 4G speed so that we would be able to get the information right away and prepare the customer’s order. 5.3.5 Testing Phase During the testing phase of our new equipment with the 4G speed internet, we found that it worked exceptionally well. We noticed that it would really speed up the exchange of information a lot quicker than we thought. Thus, we decided to go on an implement the plans as we designed them. 5.3.6 Implementation Phase The implementation phase will take the longest. First, we need to rewire the building to enable the restaurant to be able to handle the new networking capabilities of the internet. Once rewired, we will be able to install the equipment necessary to operate the new technology to run the business. And, then, the leadership and employees will be able to work with the new technology. Therefore, the workforce will then be able to operate Hometown Deli and set new standards that will increase their revenue. 5.3.7 Maintenance Phase During this phase we will need to ensure that our equipment stays in tip top condition, whether it will be the hardware or the software. Thus, in regular intervals we will go back and inspect the equipment to see whether or not it needs to be updated or replaced. If the equipment needs updating or replacing we will do so. We want to keep Hometown Deli operating into the 22nd Century and beyond. 5.4 Change Management For change management, the leadership will take a training course on how to operate the new equipment efficiently and effectively. Thus, we will focus on what the new changes at Hometown Deli can bring about for the customers and our business, in general. Therefore, our focus is on the future and keeping the loyal customers coming on in while we bring in new customers to increase the customer base and the profits at the same time. 5.5 Employee Training Employee training will be mandatory once the new equipment is installed. The employees will need to know how to work the new computer programmed cash registers and the monitor in the back which tells our cooks how to prepare the food for our customers. Thus, keeping our employees will be handled by the management and ownership of Hometown Deli. 5.6 Leadership Expectations The leadership expectations will be to maintain a low variance on the supplies as to keep costs low. Thus, we also expect the leadership to keep a happy workplace and the employees working as hard as they can while doing it. 5.7 Defining Success Defining success under the new format will be by the showing of increased profits, lower variance costs, and lower labor costs. Therefore with the help of technology, hometown Deli should be able to bring in bigger profits. Another success for Hometown Deli will be the increase in the customer base as well as keeping all of our customers happy at the same time. We may not be as cheap as some of our competitors, but with updating our equipment and with the addition of a Wi-Fi hub we hope to increase our business. An increase in our business on a monthly basis will be what is defined as success. References Free management library. (n.d.). Retrieved from http:// managementhelp.org Tate, A. (2008, January 22).
