Database is considered as the main technology to manage and store this limited resource. Presently databases are the vital need for every corporation or business. Indeed, the databases are vital for the business and corporate management. When any damage to this business resource occurs then the whole business can go down or may function improperly. Through seeing this huge development in technology and its potential advantages to the business “Mayo Clinic Medical Center” has decided to implement a new database system technology. This paper presents a detailed analysis of basic areas of the new technology. 2. Introduction Data and information are the most valuable resources for any business or corporation. Therefore, the development and implementation of databases to store this valuable business for corporate working has turned out to be a major part of almost every corporation or business sector. In addition, this development and implementation of the databases has offered great advantages to the organizations for an effective management of their business activities. This paper throws light on the development and analysis of a database system for “Mayo Clinic Medical Center” that is health care business with a variety of off-site campuses interacting within its health system. This business is operating through different working and business problems. The main objective behind this research is to outline the problem areas and then suggesting most suitable solution for these problems. 3. Business Overview Business Name: Mayo Clinic Medical Center Business Area: Heath Care Business Present Working Structure: Decentralized Mayo Clinic Medical Center is a health care business that is working through a chain of off-site campuses. The working of this business is traditional in nature and relying upon the manual ways of data and information handling. In this business, there is an utmost need of a constant link among the distant working teams and main campuses. To serve this purpose, they need well qualified staff and suitable office structure. Now the management of the Mayo Clinic Medical Center has decided to establish a new database technology framework for the corporate. The main intention of the Mayo Clinic Medical Center management is to potentially improve the overall corporate performance and working capabilities. 4. Problem Situation As discussed above the business of Mayo Clinic Medical Center is currently running through manual ways. In such scenario, the overall workload and working style is more rigid. All these problems lead to less effective working performance. At present, the data of business is paper based or semi automated which is stored in MS-Excel sheets. Under these circumstances, the problem they are facing is the amount of data that is huge. Thus, they can’t perceive and conclude some valuable information from this data. This data seems to have no worth because it is really hard to extract some valuable facts and figures from this data. The business of the Mayo Clinic Medical Center is currently facing critical problems in the following areas of information management: Event handling Business decision making Huge data management Daily operations handling Response and management Business data analysis Business planning Resource handling Facility analysis HR management 5. Proposed Solution The effective management of the above stated operations is possible through the implementation of new database system. This will facilitate while developing and planning information for new employments. As Chou, Bindu, & Chou (2005) stated that corporate information is the base of each corporate critical decision making (Chou, Bindu, & Chou, 2005). In this scenario, the Mayo Clinic Medical Center needs to develop a database to store this huge information in an effective way as compared to presently stored data. For effective management of the Mayo Clinic Medical Center, the new database system needs to be web based system which will certainly increase efficiency to monitor, collect, enter and run customizable reports for each site’s data or as an organization as a whole. In this scenario, we have decided to implement a web based solution that is a relation database system with suitable graphical user interface at front end that will be available for all workers of business for the purpose of entering, analysis, updating and sharing of data. 6. Advantages of New System The new system at Mayo Clinic Medical Center is aimed at offering a better business and corporate working support. In this scenario, some of the main advantages of this business system are outlined below. Recommended database application The proposed database will be SQL Server based database that will facilitate for an effective management and handling of overall business data. The main purpose of this database is to capture and manage business operational data and properly handling incoming and outgoing business information. In our case, we will use the “Crystal Reports” software for business reports preparation and overall analysis of the business data. 8. Database Resource Required In this area, I will outline some of the main resources which will be required for the overall database development: Cost - $2000 Software: Win XP, SQL Server 2005, PHP, Crystal Reports, CASE tools for designing Hardware: P-4 System with 512MB RAM and 20GB hard disk space 9. Data warehousing and Data mining In scenario of Mayo Clinic Medical Center business, the management will always desire effective business decisions. In this regard we need a reliable technology that is able to facilitate the effective business handling and in time assessment for dealing some of the main business problems. Data warehousing and data mining techniques are really necessary for effective business intelligence. For an effective enterprise resource plans and decision making, organizations need more effective business reporting and intelligence. In the scenario of Mayo Clinic Medical Center business the data warehouse and data mining based business intelligence system will offer better support for corporate decision making. This system will offer competitive advantage over other organizations through the effective business decision making. Database quality, integrity, and security Considering the database quality we need to evaluate the performance of new web based system. This performance can directly be related to database quality, database integrity and database security. For ensuring overall business system’s performance and working efficiency we need to consider all these areas so that we can ensure effective system support to the business: 10.1. Database Quality For business database system the database quality is one of the main aspects that are mostly needed for an effective business analysis and decision making. In this regard, the database quality can be achieved through well defined database design. The effective database design is the key to make an enhanced database system with quality data (Hoffer, Prescot, & Topi, 2009). 10.2. Database Integrity Regarding the database integrity we need to make the overall database a single entity of contrail. The traditional business working of the Mayo Clinic Medical Center business is operated through the de-centralized business arrangement. In case of new web based technology platform implementation, we can achieve better business support because this system is a centralized data repository. The main advantage of this centralized data repository is an effective and more enhanced management. We can also apply effective security parameters to this data repository. 10.3. Some of the main database security issues can be database hacking, virus attack, illegal database intrusion, data deletion or wrong entry. All these problems can create a huge damage to the business database and a huge business problem. Under these circumstances, we need to take some effective actions regarding safety of the business data. These actions can be the deployment of the security firewall, effective password based security, anti-virus programs and enhanced administrative controls (Baker & Wallace, 2007; Ghosh & Swaminatha, 2001). 11. Role of the database administrator The traditional role of database administrator is presently changing. The Mayo Clinic Medical Center’s database administrator will be a most important person for the handling of overall business database setup. However, at the present, database administration deals with the modeling of data as well as treating data as an organizational resource. Database administration also deals with the accomplishment of the different kinds of databases that are in use. Database administration is generally carried out by a data administrator.
