Carlson Companies There is spread of networks all over the world that has helped in satisfying the needs of companies and enterprises (Halpert, 2011). Networks offer facilities of using computers to meet the functions and purposes of business enterprises. However, there are numerous challenges that often challenge these networks especially due to the growth of companies and business enterprises that are handled by these networks (Jamsa, 2013). Therefore, there are needs to adjust the efficiency of the network, particularly the storage area network (SAN) continually to meet the growing demands of customers and the business environment (Molen and Brace, 2010). Nonetheless, due to the changes or advancement in technology, the implements in SAN often takes different dimensions that often change with time due to changes in in technology and the demand to such changes. The effective way to implement a SAN requires computing different or all the existing servers by deploying multiple servers thereby allowing them to organize automatically by creating unconnected information islands. However, in the case of Carlson SAN approach, each of these created islands will be accessible to only one computer; therefore, if computer B needs to use information created by computer A, then computer B needs to copy such information from computer A. In this case, the computer A and B are not connected to a central server, but to independent servers. However, the current implementation of SAN requires a mode of operation or computation where the sourcing of information is from a central point, but accessing such information must be with a high degree of security. Moreover, the Carlson SAN approach mode of implementation requires backup, inter-process communication, and data transfer between different data source; however, the today’s implementation will not require backup since that data or the computing information will be in the cloud (Jamsa, 2013). Cloud computing does not require backup or interruption of systems or the flow of information during such implementations since such data or inhumation will be readily available to both the organization’s management and customers in the cloud (Halpert, 2011). Cloud computing allows server Virtualization that do not require physical servers that reducing the interference of worker at some point of network maintenance or advancement. The SAN concept has serious advantages and notable disadvantages. For instance, it often allows a single host computer to own or store data where all other computers are connected to a single storage device. This mode of operation creates flexibility in information management since there is room of addition and removal of data without affecting the storage or data (Jamsa, 2013). Moreover, it allows easy increase, re-assignment, changing, and backing up services as well as storage data in a common pool (Halpert, 2011). Additionally, SAN allows storage of enormous data and supporting a large number of servers and operating systems thereby facilitating efficient means of operating in the business or organization data or information. SAN is ever available; thus, making it easy for many servers to access data from the same pool. Therefore, SAN’s server Virtualization and data pool management are responsible for the reduction of storage networking through Carlson's IP SAN (Molen and Brace, 2010). This helped the Carlson is the administration and management due to the reduction in physical hardware. However, most of the SAN solutions in the market are often restricted and limited to certain specifications. Additionally, many of these solutions do not allow interoperability (Molen and Brace, 2010). The most common solutions of SAN that are not effective include its backup and recovery processes, data replication, and storage consolidation (Jamsa, 2013). Finally, there management packages are limited in the management scope of particular aspects or an element of SAN thereby becoming proprietary. The use of different solution in the application or used of SAN usually leads or generates mixed equipment and this is what led to same concern from the sides of customers (Halpert, 2011). This situation often leads to difficulties in management of data resources from both the customer and those generated within the organization. Cloud Computing The cloud computing is a powerful combination of storage, networking, cloud computing, and management solution that the company can apply towards generating new informed and effective information and technology services to the customers (Molen and Brace, 2010). The Carlson may adopt the use of cloud computing in managing its IT services instead of SAN since cloud computing offer services that deliver economically without questioning its functionality or security. Moreover, instead of moving one cloud, Carlson may decide to move interconnected “world of numerous clouds” since its business is found in different parts of the world (Jamsa, 2013). The intensive cloud computing will be a sure source of accessing its customers for services across the globe easily and at any time with reduced physical or human management. Therefore, Carlson should employ the services of cloud computing since they are cost effective and lead to great productivity. Additionally, the cloud computing will allow the organization owners handle the organization as if it were a machine that is remote controlled since almost everything will be run from emails, word processing, and complex data analysis (Halpert, 2011). Therefore, it is apparent that this mode of management will shift the workload significantly since the local computers will be turned into a cloud. This will also reduce software and hardware demands of Carlson thereby decreasing the workload on the side of the user (Molen and Brace, 2010). Therefore, cloud computing will be the best form of the computer that Carlson can adopt and develop instead of the SAN.
