Examining of one reading by theme, issue, perspective The ease of communication that the internet has created is also associated with the creation of different rights that need securing for the governments. The effects that failure to protect these rights have created have led to major implications both negative and positive. They have enhanced further the need to promote the internet communication as a platform to freely connect millions of people in different locations around the world. Introduction The ease of access to information that the internet has created has closely been associated with the different effects of the revolutions around the world. They have also slowly gained popularity as the best way that the public access information and share their grief over the governments and hence resulting effects of war. According to the book by Clinton, a number of rights associated with the internet have for years been violated and the different governments violating them have neglected the strength of the internet leading to massive implications that have led to loss of lives and destruction of property besides the overthrow of different governments. The details of the essay below bring to light the different rights of the internet and the wrongs. It also tries to justify the actions of the different governments in controlling the spread of information. Theme Internet rights and wrongs all have different justifications and implications. Some of the actions that the different governments have engaged to control these have offered positive implications. The denial of the rights to the internet in many forms have restricted access to information that has affected the development effect of the countries and led to unaccounted losses of lives. Violation of human rights Understanding the rights and wrongs of the internet as per the reading attached requires an understanding of how the different aspects rights and wrongs are advanced to the public. The book attached discusses the different rights and wrongs that governments involve in when trying to ensure that they protect or restrict the flow of information or the influence that the internet has gained over the years. The ease with which the internet has made for access of information has made it a very influential item. Considering the example of Egypt where a woman named Neda was killed by a member of a paramilitary team that was supposed to bring order to the chaos but rather chose to perform these atrocities (Clinton, 571). Through the internet, the video capturing of this act was circulated all over the internet and the ease in access that was allowed caused a stir in the public thoughts. Such access to the internet and the acceptance of access of this nature has seen the rights of the people misused through the resulting violence and revolutions that resulted. Understanding the rights and wrongs that the people use the internet for will make one understand the justifications of the Egyptian government in relation to switching off the internet access and telephone services as a way of controlling the effects that the uprising would have caused. The government aimed at controlling access to the information by the world. Limiting the effect of the media in causing more uproar in the public was the aim of the government when it performed these acts. Although through the internet darkness that loomed, the government and paramilitary officials carried out violations of human rights. Guarantee of control Switching off the internet does not guarantee the control effect that the governments always intend to achieve. The limitation of internet access was aimed at reducing and ending the public actions. According to the Egyptian situation, “the protests continued despite the internet shutdown” (Clinton, p.571). At the point when the revolution began, the damage that the internet had caused was already massive hence making it difficult for the government to successfully arrest the situation. The actions of the public continued and proved difficult to halt leading to more loss of lives and destruction of property that brought down the economy of the country and affected the life that people led. The government after realizing the failure of their actions to bear fruits, the internet restored and communication restored after five days. This was a story of one act distributed throughout the internet and led to massive implications for the country. The growing uses of the internet The growth of the internet and its development into an avenue for interactions of the people has converted it into a “town square, classroom, marketplace, coffeehouse and nightclubs” (Clinton, p.572). The growth of the internet into a place that people interact more freely and around a huge spectrum around the world have created an advantage in communication that has turned the world into a global village. The internet has also become a public police that has provided them with an avenue to front their thoughts on different actions taken all over the world. Despite these, the internet has also created ease in access of different information aspects with many newsrooms using it to reach the news to the people. Respect of the different freedoms of the people in relation to “expression, assembly and association”. The rights to connect and communicate online are the right that the internet has provided to the people. These rights advocated for and enhanced through the ease of access that the internet has created. The United Nations has continuously supported the freedom and its distribution. It has continued to allow the use of this freedom as a way of encouraging the rights to expression, rights to information, promoting accountability of the actions of the different governments inclusive of the different violations that they involve in that violate the human rights. Solving of shared problems and the exposures of vices that public servants continuously participate in Through the internet, the different problems that people face in their daily lives have been draw to attention and solved. The internet has created a platform for sharing on different aspects including the problems that people face. A number of examples exist on the different problems solved using the internet. These include the “people in Russia who tracked wildfires online and organized a volunteer fire fighting squad, to children in Syria who used Facebook to reveal abuse by their teacher” (p.572). These have presented the internet as a useful tool to contribute to the improvement of the lives that people live. Control of security issues The increasing security concerns play part in the promotion of the internet wrongs. The many governments have used different approaches to deal with the insecurity aspect. “Security is often invoked as a justification for harsh crackdown on freedoms” (Clinton, p.574). Many of the governments have used this excuse to carryout wrongs to the people and cause more challenges to the people. Harsh crackdowns on security such as those in Egypt that restricted communication as a way of limiting the wide spread of the violence aimed at creating harmony or calming the situation in the country but rather escalated it. Protection of the confidentiality and transparency One among the other many challenges that the governments have faced because of the internet include “protecting both transparency and confidentiality”. This has challenged many states with much of the information freely accessed through the internet and used for different reasons including bringing down governments. The internet as a tool to promote transparency has been used to avail all forms of information to the public. The information is also available instantly making access easy. The need to enhance further confidential communication online has acted as a way that the different people have used to approach the aspect. Creation of an office to oversee the cyber activities and their effects “The foreign-policy priority for us, one that will only increase in importance in the coming years” the formation as quoted above is aimed at imposing control in the different aspects that relate to the internet rights and wrongs (Clinton, p.580). The development has created more attention to the foreign policy that the country follows that has helped improve the country’s approach to foreign policy and their actions towards the protection of the rights of the people and the internet. The development came with a creation of an office that will coordinate cyber issues and ensure that they remain controlled and their effects controlled. The development is aimed at improving cyber security and the level of improved and secure internet use. Conclusion In conclusion, the internet has slowly developed to enhance the rights of the people and created an avenue that has aimed at enhancing the agendas of the people and lead to improved communication means and forms of communication. The internet has developed as a tool that has advanced the communication aspect of the world. It has slowly created a platform that has made it easy for millions to interact freely and share on different aspects. The different impacts both negative and positive have resulted from the actions that the people have continuously engaged in. Clincher sentence The control of internet activities requires critical inclusion of the rights of the people. Violation of the rights of people and their needs in life is continuously causing ripples on the internet and causing uprising. It is therefore eminent to control these actions or risk having massive actions because of the internet. Works Cited Clinton, Hillary. Rights and wrongs Choices and Challenges in a Networked World.
