? Social Activism The first organization that I selected is Water for people. The reason I chose this organization is that water shortage has always remained a topic of my interest. People from all over the world have been facing the issue of water shortage from a long time and in most parts of the world this issues has become an increasingly dangerous situation. This situation always alarmed me and so I decided to join and explore such an organization which would be working for solving this issue of water crisis and making it possible for everyone to get access to purified water. This organization helps people in developing and building their own reservoirs of purified water so that they can improve their economic conditions (Water for People, 2012). This organization was developed and started in order to provide an access to purified and clean water to people from all over the world and improve and modify sanitation systems. A lot many deaths in this world are due to lack of water and sanitation problems. This organization wanted to reduce the deaths of people due to these reasons of water shortage and diseases due to sanitation problems. The idea of building and starting this organization came up in late 1980’s when Ken Miller the former president of American Water Works Association along with four other people who were also employed in the American Water Works Association shared their view of solving this issue of water problems like availability of clean water, good sanitation facilities and water shortage. Soon other members of the American Water Works Association became interested in working for solving water issues and soon it became the responsibility, in fact the social responsibility of the water industry to look up to these issues and provide applicable solutions to the problems. After great efforts from the people of American Water Works Association finally in February 1991 Water for everyone came into being as a separate non-governmental and non-profitable organization (Water for People, 2012). There are various ways in which the people can become a part of this great endeavor. A person can become a part of this organization simply by making a donation to this organization, by participating in any committee, by becoming a part of any tour, by sending e-cards to the people of various countries where people are suffering, by attending or becoming a sponsor or organizing of any event of this organization, by helping in marketing of any event of this organization, by helping the organization in promoting and spreading their message or by becoming a member of the World Water Corps (Darity, 2008). This issue is related to the humanities and ethics course and the course based on humanitarian and social care. It teaches the students how to make their life more useful and beneficial by making the use of their resources and abilities to help others and make the life of others easy. This organization helped me to understand the problems that have been arising due to water and what and how various steps can be taken in order to eliminate and eradicate this problem from the root. Another organization that I chose is the CARE, I chose this because it is an organization which is making efforts to eliminate poverty among the people from all over the world. It also aims at providing relief care to the people who have been affected by any sort of natural disaster or catastrophe. Studying sociology also includes spending one’s time, focus and attention towards the problems and issues of the world and finding solutions to the problem (Bornstein, David, and Susan Davis, 2010). The organization is devoted in eliminating poverty among the people. This organization mainly focuses on women who are poor and makes them capable of earning money because they have the capability of earning money and supporting the entire family. It also aims at providing education and training to the women so that they expand economic opportunities and improve business. The organization focuses on women because they believe that women are very powerful characters (Care, n.d). This organization also helps in providing relief to the victims of natural disasters, wars and other catastrophes. The main goal of the organization is to achieve a world that is free of poverty and each and every individual is secure, safe and happy. The organization visions a world that is free from poverty, problems and other social issues. The organization developed after the World War II when a huge amount of people were badly affected, many people became homeless, many children became orphan and many women became widows and so this organization was established in 1945 in order to provide relief to the suffering people and provide opportunities to the people to restart their life and make their unhappy and distressed life a happy one. Since then the organization have been making efforts to provide care and comfort to the people and eliminating and eradicating poverty in this world. It is the social responsibility of the people to give attention and put in efforts to help make people lives easier and contribute in improving the living standards of the people by providing the people with the basic necessities of life like food, water, shelter and education. CARE has been supporting and funding various projects that have been working to eliminate poverty in this world and help provide relief to the suffering people (Adams, Maurianne, Warren J. Blumenfeld, Carmelita R. Castan?eda, Heather W. Hackman, Madeline L. Peters, and Ximena Zu?n?iga, 2010). This organization broadened my vision on the issues related to poverty and other humanitarian and social based problems. The organization helped to inform me and everyone about the various communities that are so badly affected and need the help and support from the people. The members of this organization help to develop feeling of humanity, love and care among the people for the suffering people. It makes the people realize that it is the social responsibility of the people to devote themselves in helping others and share the resources with everyone so that everyone in this world can enjoy a happy life and a balance and equity can be established on this earth (May, Steve, George Cheney, and Juliet Roper, 2007).
