The paper “Success Factors Influencing Implementation of HRD Initiatives in Attracting Local STEM Students in the Workforce in UAE” is a brilliant variant of the capstone project on human resources. Globalization has led to greater competition in the labor market. It has also led to greater mobility of the local labor force that strives for better opportunities abroad. This has led to the acute insufficiency of talent in the UAE. Failure to attract and retain a local talented workforce (especially STEM students) is a grave concern business organization in UAE have to contend with. Therefore, retention of technological experts into UAE’s businesses remains an underlying problem for businesses as they need a larger talent pool in order to increase their competitiveness. However, a fundamental concern is that organizations in the UAE lack effective strategies to attract and retain talented STEM students.

The study aimed to identify the mains aspects necessary for effective localization of the workforce, with special reference to attracting and retaining STEM students in the business organizations in the UAE.

The study used a mixed-method of research, consisting of qualitative research methods (using semi-structured interview) and quantitative research method (structured interviews). The research targeted UAE employees in the technical department working in businesses operating in Dubai and Sharjah. 30 employees were surveyed using quantitative research while eight participants took part in the qualitative study. It is established that business organizations in the UAE face business continuity and productivity problems due to talent succession problems, particularly in their technical or ICT departments. A primary reason is that organizations in the UAE lack effective strategies to attract and retain talented STEM students. The critical success factors for retention of STEM students are human resource development practices such as talent management, in addition to management style, salaries and wages, HRM practices, and job satisfaction.

Globalization has accelerated the networking of economies, increased competition, technological development, and search for a talented workforce in the modern-day business environment. As a result, it has necessitated the need for organizations to increase their competitiveness in the global marketplace.
