Enhancing Teacher Leadership ABSTRACT The purpose of this article is to introduce, inculcate and enhance the role of a teacher as a leader in posing and gaining different actions that will lead to the progress of the student, other teachers and the whole institution. The scope of this study is to introduce different aspects and strategies to achieve the main goal of the author in improving the current level of the teacher in different institutions. The author believed in the teachers’ position as leaders when they act in various professional societies to result student learning; provide things to improve school status; model a good character in practice; and encourage stakeholders to be part of educational enhancement (as cited in Childs-Bowe et al, 2000).

The methodology used was through provisions of ideals, facts and strategies that will encourage teachers in realizing the status they embody. These were gathered through collating various literature sources that has been proven effective over time. The strategies include: a) Recognition, identification and establishment of various importance and opportunities for teachers. b) Supporting and promoting various opportunities for teachers to alley out their leadership potentials. c) Application of strategies to various education communities, d) Improvement of professionalism in different cases.

(National Comprehensive Center for Teacher Quality, 2007). The author concluded the article through providing a true-to-life experience obtained from various individuals who have been strengthened with the idea aimed by the author. The different strategies were applied in order to create an image of effectiveness towards the whole teaching population. The limitation of this study includes gathering various information from established organizations that will create a collaborative aspect in training and enhancing the whole population towards a level higher than where they are currently situated.

CRITIQUE Upon reading the whole article, I believe that the author has provided strong facts that will surely take an effect to various teachers in promoting a student-teacher relationship. The different benefits and tips being cited has shown significant importance to professional improvement and enhancement. While it was revolving around the various strategies to promote teacher leadership, I was particularly intrigued with the various external linkages that exist around the world which help in achieving the goal set by the author.

A brilliant case in good point, the author was able to provide various factual strategies that will not only encourage professionalism but also to start improvements in simple ways. On the other hand, while these aspects are being discussed and various linkages were presented, it was not clearly discussed whether in what aspect they can help and what things can be achieved and earned through them. I believe that leadership skills are sometimes being under minded by various educators since not all of them are given the chance to express it or even just to have it proven to their own students.

As cited in Briley (2004), it is one of the major responsibilities being left unnoticed by some individuals and heads of the institution. Furthermore, for the improvement of the article, it would also be helpful to clearly specify the goal of the text since chances of misinterpreting and misunderstanding may happen. By imposing the various aspects of teacher leadership, it will personally provide various chances to increase professionalism and self satisfaction in different educational institutions.
