The minute you start working here, you become an integral part of Slow Books and its future. Every job in our company is important, and you will play a key role in the continued growth of our company. In case you have any questions concerning this handbook, your employment or benefits, please feel free to discuss them with your supervisor or manager. Again, Welcome to Slow Books! Introduction & Description of Company We consider ourselves to be a small scaled business and our main value is integrity and best customer service. Our business has been built on faith, integrity, hard work and intense relationships with our stakeholders. We believe in working hard and expect all our employees to contribute to the business to help us grow and grow along with us. Confidentiality Agreement All information included in this book pertains to Slow Books and should not for nay purpose be discussed or shared with non Slow Books employees. The information provided are confidential and are meant only for the employees of the company. To ensure that no information is passed on to others, please follow the precautionary measures: a) All official matters need to be discussed with the employees of the company alone. b) The business matters need to be discussed with employees who have specific business reason to know or need access to information to carry out their duties c) Ensure that all visitors are monitored and supervised to ensure they do not get access to any other company information except for the intended one d) Destroy hard copies of documents containing confidential information that is not filed or archived. We appreciate your cooperation. Please note that your cooperation is important for the safety of the company and the clients of the company and to follow the laws relating data protection. In case you do face any issue of lost or stolen items please report to Slow Books officer at the earliest. Policy Prohibiting Harassment and Discrimination Slow Books strived hard to ensure a safe working environment is maintained for all and every employee is treated with respect, dignity and courtesy. We will not tolerate any inappropriate behavior or any form of harassment to any of the employees of the company. Harassment includes all elements like slurs, jokes, physical or verbal abuses, or any act pertaining or relating to the gender, marital status, creed, race, color, sexual orientation, age, disability, national origin, or any other topic which might cause the working environment to be hostile. Sexual harassment includes behaviors like unwelcome sexual advances, offensive touching, request for sexual favors, and any other form of verbal or physical conduct of sexual nature which might create an uncomfortable situation for the other person. This will be considered to be an offense if a) Any form of complaint is got b) If used for any form of employment decision c) Interferes with the work of others, and or d) Creates hostility within the environment. Please be aware, safety of our employees is very important to us and we do not tolerate any form of harassment. Any harassment will be treated with full importance and can lead to loss of job and also a formal official complaint to the law. Compensation & Work Schedule Attendance & Punctuality: All employees are expected to attend work regularly and to report on time. For any reason if you are unable to attend work, you will need to call your supervisor at least 2 hours before the shift and let them know of the issue. No excuses will be tolerated for holidays taken without prior notice. Unsatisfactory behavior, attendance and late reporting can lead to discharge as well. Personal Time & Breaks: A normal working day involves a total of 8 hours. Breaks will be scheduled as following: a) Employees will be entitled to 2 short breaks, i.e. 15 minutes each during the day b) Employees will be entitled to 1 lunch break, which will be unpaid and can last for a maximum of 30 minutes Any break or personal time taken more than the prescribed amount requires to be reported to the supervisor and need to be scheduled based on the team requirements. Conduct Standards: Company Email and Company Property: Please ensure that the company email is meant only for business purposes. These emails will be regularly checked for any misuse or personal use. Please keep the work areas clean and handle company property with care. Any damage to the property will be deductable from the income of the employee and improper use of any property can lead to discharge from duties. Decorum: Slow Books is very particular that all employees are well behaved at all times and keep in mind the image of the organization at all times. The following rules need to be adhered to the point: a) Romantic Relationships within the company will not be tolerated if the relationship exists between a supervisor and subordinate. This can have an effect on productivity of the work environment and will not be tolerated to any extent. Any inappropriate behavior or forced relationship within the organization can be reported as harassment and strict action will be taken against the same. b) Dress Code for Slow Books is usually formals. Fridays will be a dress down day. However inappropriate clothing, revealing clothing, torn and tattered jeans will not be acceptable. Please understand you will be at work and a sense of responsibility is important at all times. c) Company Image Protection should be a major part of all employees’ behavior. Use of foul language or any inappropriate behavior inside or outside the company will not be tolerated and strict action will be taken against any such behavior which can lead to the discharge from duties as well. d) A grievance cell is also available for the employees to report any wrong doings and employees are obliged to do so. e) Slow Books has a zero tolerance for the workplace violence and any such behavior can lead to discharge from duties and employees will be reported to the law authorities as well. f) Leave: Unpaid leave will be permitted for a period of 12 weeks in the event of any serious health conditions of the self or any close family member. Also family leave will be permitted in case of pregnancy or any other serious medical condition. All leaves need to give at least 1 – 2 day prior notice. g) Resignation, Termination or Discharge: Any misbehavior on the part of the employee can lead to discharge from duties and is at the discretion of the company. If an employee quits at will, then a notice of 1 month will be required. h) Slow Books follows an ‘Open Door’ policy and all employees have the right to use these at all times. i) Credit check and a criminal check will also be conducted on all employees to ensure the safety and complete information security of the company and its clients. Bonus and Perks: Slow Books provides the employees with a bonus or perk at the end of December. This is payable if an employee has completed a 12 months in the organization and has not be warned for breach of any regulations within the company.
