My second job was with the Durrat Al Arus Real Estate Development & Tourism in Jeddah (July 2006 to July 2007). I was an Engineering Department Supervisor whose duties included, among others, supervising the preventive maintenance program and routine inspections of the company and the electromechanical drawing details and modifications, and building construction, interior and landscape projects.

My work experiences inspired me to further pursue my studies in the field of Operations Management. What excites me most in the field of Operations Management is that it is very encompassing. It offers opportunities in a variety of fields including government, manufacturing, transportation, communication, consulting, banking, and health care. Operations Management does not only involve the supervision of people, it also focuses on the management of equipment, information, technology, products and services.
A multitude of topics are dealt with in Operations Management which makes it stimulating and inspiring. Pursuing further studies in Operations Management will allow me to work not only in one specific area of an organization, but rather, I can go into its several departments including quality control, capacity planning, product and process design and development, materials and inventory management, purchasing, field service support and scheduling. For me, the career opportunities in Operations Management are endless and that is what makes it exciting.
With the increasing globalization in the economic societies today, I foresee myself doing research work in the areas of international logistics and strategic supply chain management and inventory management. I intend to endeavor on a qualitative and quantitative study on the impact of outsourcing in the supply chain management of an international manufacturing organization. I would like to probe its effects on the company’s distribution cost, quality control and on customer satisfaction. In summary, I would like to reiterate my intention to pursue a Doctoral Degree in Operations Management because of the numerous opportunities it will provide me in my future career plans and direction.
It is my opinion that the emerging globalization in today’s economy makes Operations Management an inevitable area of study.
