The author cited secondary sources to support information on ways to control both absenteeism and presenteeism. The information contained in the article would be useful for the current study as it presented diverse issues that are deemed critical for the current research. The only weakness identified is the failure of the author to cite as a reference the discourse provided by “Gorovsky, an employment law analyst at CCH” (Mitra, 2008, par. 9). A total of 17 references were cited to support contentions on issues pertaining to the implications of health-related absenteeism and presenteeism. The source is informative in so far as determining the rationale for health-related issues that cause absenteeism and presenteeism in the workplace. The author likewise explored solutions to the dilemma in terms of enumerating ten suggestions for the researcher. The article is comprehensive and supported by twelve diverse sources which could be verified by the researcher. This article would prove to be useful for the current research as it contained vast amount of relevant information that would enhance the understanding of absenteeism in the workplace. Presented various theoretical frameworks that aim to enhance the understanding of behavior in organizations through topics such as management functions, assisting personnel to balance work and other responsibilities, improving employees’ skills, focusing on customer service, discussing motivational concepts, delving into communication, power and politics, conflict and negotiation, culture, and stress management. The authors were effective in discussing relevant and crucial factors that influence absenteeism in the workplace. In this regard, organizational factors that influence tendencies for employees to be absent could be sourced from the book and could be related to the current research. Sidri, G. & Lewis, M. (1995). “Combatting Absenteeism in the Workplace.” Management Research News, Vol. 18 Iss: 1/2, pages 24 – 30. Collated diverse research literatures on the subject of absenteeism with the aim of “answering the following three questions: (1) How should an organization define and measure absenteeism?; (2) What are the underlying causes of absence?; (3) Which are the best methods that an organization might adopt to reduce absenteeism?” (Sidri & Lewis, 1995, p. 24). The authors discussed the most crucial concerns on absenteeism in the workplace by first providing the definition of the term and measuring it through the support and references from secondary and authoritative sources on the subject. Likewise, other than detailing the causes, the authors explored on ways to combat absenteeism, as most needed for the current study. This source is definitely a useful reference that would validate relevant concerns on absenteeism. The only weakness is its date of publication which is relatively old and some practices might not be applied to contemporary organizational settings. Otherwise, the article is still a functional reference for the proposed research. Yende, P.
