The film made me very angry about what has happened in this country in the past eight years. I wasn’t a supporter of George Bush when he ‘won the election in 2000 and I felt that the entire fiasco regarding the vote-counting in Florida was definitely rigged even before Moore’s movie illustrated the facts, many of which I was unaware of at the time. His film reinforced my belief that the election was stolen by Bush and made it easier for me to simply accept the other claims Moore was making in the film.
It was hard to try to keep an objective viewpoint, particularly in view of the fact that so many American soldiers are being killed, all our money is being shipped to Iraq, and people at home are feeling the crunch. In addition, I do not feel that George Bush has been a good president. At no point did I think he was doing a good job and Moore’s movie only increased this feeling. The points he brings out regarding Bush’s actions – the idea that he was warned about the 9/11 attacks and did nothing, his response to the news, and half-hearted attempt to explain that he was trying not to upset the children (who would be upset in moments as mothers and fathers began pulling kids out of class in fear) and his response to go to war with a country that had nothing to do with the attacks all emphasize his inability to protect the country and his all-abiding interest in protecting his own profits and those of his friends.
I would highly recommend this film to others like it, if nothing else, stimulates thought and discussion by reaching beyond what has been publicized in the media.
