Running head: american national government 27th March Introduction Americans are either in republican side or in support of democrats and one has the right to any side and thus why the Americans are republican in general and democrats in particular. The two political parties plays a major role in American politics and that is why the United States is ideologically conservative and this makes it hard for the voters to discern the correct position regarding a particular or specific issue that is raised. The paper seeks to discuss what drives people to be either democratic or republican in the American national government. The different ideological emerges between the Republicans and Democrats with the aim of supporting the American national government so as the Americans interests of important blocs of voters which the two political party must respond to. These ideological differences drives people to be either Democratic or Republicans. The Republicans acts like checks and balances to the democrats so that the Americans desires can be achieved. Another fundamental difference that Americans have and make them to either be driven to Republicans or Democrats is the structure of the political parties. Democrat’s power usually flows upwards while for the Republicans power usually flows downwards (Cornelius, 1964). This makes the Republicans to perceive themselves as insiders though they are out of power while the Democrats perceive themselves as outsiders and they are in power and this makes Americans to support the democrats in masses making the republicans to be less in number. Factual background Gun control Gun control in the American national government has been an issue that makes the American not to discern which political side to support between the republicans and democrats. For example, regulating guns where the Republicans seem to have a strong hand. The Republican favors for strict gun control due to deaths that emanate from easy access of guns. The Republican have a stronger hand on gun control though the number has been reducing for instance, in 1990, 78 percent of Americans supported strict regulations of gun control. In 1995 only 62 percent supported the measure and currently only 49 percent support guns control (James, 1964). Two third of federal government do support database to truck guns while others endorsed checks for private gun sales and gun shows. Gun control issues have been on public domain Republicans supporting strict rules for gun control while Democrats has idea of loosening control so that more teachers and those in high rank can get access to guns. On my opinion regarding gun control measure, I do support the Republicans since without restriction of gun control, it will make criminal cases to reduce and deaths either in schools or in companies among other places. Due to high insecurity, there is need to control gun access but the Republicans face challenges since Democrats are more in the national congress. Obamacare (Affordable Care Act) The affordable care act is another ideological difference between those who support Democrats and those for Republicans. The affordable care acts is a provision for health insurance for all Americans working or those who do not work. The insurance cover that is going to be provided under the influence of president Obama is going to ban insurance companies denying coverage to those who have pre-existing conditions. The Affordable Care Act (ACA) key selling point is to make sure that it will cover a significant number of above 30 million Americans who do not have health insurance covers. The Republicans do oppose the Affordable Care Act since about 6 million people do work in companies and one cannot be given two insurance covers (Molly, 1984). This means all the employees who are working in the companies has to rely on affordable care act and not the companies. The issue has a lot of controversy in both sides Democrats and Republicans which gives the Americans a lot of challenge in which is correct to side with. My opinion to the Affordable Care Act is to support the democrats or in short the Affordable Care Act is beneficial to all Americans since it ranks all the Americans as the same despite different status in income levels. This is based on the fact that there are those Americans who are low income earners and others are high income earners and the low income earners cannot be able to pay for health insurance and the American national government will be able to provide for the same. This is despite challenges from high income earners and the republicans since the American national government has to set aside about $2 trillion as an as estimated expenditure. Affordable care act will help those who cannot acquire health insurance. Dissent and disloyalty Democrats are well known due to their policies which are known to be much more fractious than for Republicans. Though the two sides are bound on dissent, the members of democrats can criticize their leaders and candidates publicly. This means that the political party provides democracy to all the members and even to the Americans. On the other hand, Republicans do not allow for public criticize of their leaders and if one criticizes a fellow Republican, then one is deemed disloyal to the political party. The democratic ideology is to have a democratic government that is ruled in a democratic manner and everything that is done in the absence of the Americans must be publically announced (Duane, 1956). While on the other hand, the Republicans do fight sometimes viciously but the fight is not under the public domain and their things are done in private manner. This is the reason why the Americans are for the Democrats since in their day to day running of the government, democracy is the key agenda to be addressed. The Republicans on the other hand are not for democracy and that is why they address their issues in private manner since dictatorship is encouraged in the political party. My opinion is that democrats are always right since they publically address the issue to the public domain no matter what will be the outcome. Democrats do allow democracy to be within the leadership where everyone has right as guaranteed by the constitution. On the other hand, the Republicans do not allow criticism and thus democracy is not within the political party. Government spending Another ideological difference between the Americans is the government spending way. Many Americans do not like how the government spends and that is why many Americans are for the government to cut spending across the board and three quarter of the people agree. But whenever the Americans are asked whether the governments should cut specific programs that are operating, the Americans do not support cutting of such programs (Helen, 1984). The Democrats usually are in the side of lowering government spending which other American residents are for in large numbers. On the other hand, the Republicans are for the government to cut specific programs and this makes the support of republican to immediately evaporate. This usually portrays the difference between the nation’s ideology and the reality of how people actually live their lives thus having different ideologies towards the Democrats political party and that one of Republican. This gives us another factual background why Americans are either Democratic or Republican. My opinion toward government spending is that democrats are correct to lower the government spending rather than government to cut specific programs. For example, it is not actually correct to eliminate something like affordable care act since it is costing the American national government more than $2 trillion. But the Republican usually adopts for such options and the reason why Americans will either have a desire to either choose to be on the side and support fully the Democratic or the Republicans. These controversies and different ideological issues gives the Americans challenge since many citizens are not able to discern which side is correct since they all sell their agendas explaining how good or bad the issue is to the Americans in general. Conclusions Ideological differences are in all countries and different states do have different ways of solving the issues that affect their country. For instance, in American national government the different ideological issues drive the Americans either in support of democratic political party or the republican. The use and the control of guns in America is a controversial issue that the Americans do not know which side to support and discern from the correct thing and this gives the Americans a lot of challenges. Another aspect is Affordable Care Act which the Americans have issues with especially for those who are employed and low income earners with high income earners. Dissent and disloyalty is another issue that the Americans citizens consider and lastly how the government is spending is another issue that drives Americans to either be Democratic or Republicans due to different ideological issues.
