here> here> 5th March, Biography of Abraham Lincoln The main idea for this book was character. In the book “The Everyday life of Abraham Lincoln”, the author, Francis Fisher Browne, uses Abraham Lincoln as an icon of personality and character. This biography was written twenty five years after the death of Abraham Lincoln. While searching for information about Lincoln, Browne searched and interviewed people who had interacted or had substantial contact with the icon in his book. At that time, very few were alive or were available for an interview with Browne.

As a result of this, the main idea of Browne’s book was shaped by how the interviewees viewed Abraham Lincoln. The main idea of a charismatic personality, possessed by Lincoln, is built from the memories of men that served with him in his government and during the civil war.Abraham Lincoln was the sixteenth president of America and is mostly remembered for his role in the civil war that happened at his time of presidency. Lincoln and his parent were lived in Kentucky but later moved to Indiana and the reason for their migration was partly due to slave trade and oppression of the poor.

Back in Kentucky, the poor were not allowed to own land but were used to cultivate land for the well up in the society. Lincoln left Indiana for Illinois and succeeded to become a Whig after joining the military. His selfless personality and character made him encourage people to become better. According to Browne, Abraham was unsentimental and he encourage people to utilize their farms and produce so that the can achieve financial stability and freedom. An example is when he was quoted saying that farmers were just like any other successful people.

Abraham had the character that keeps on encouraging others like when he told famers that they were working in others farms then, they would work on their farms later and much later they would employ others to work in their farms (Browne). Abraham had a humane personality as he hated seeing people mistreated as slaves. Immediately after becoming a lawyer, he came out and condemned slavery openly. He stated that slavery deprived off the citizens their rights to move around and interact freely. He viewed this as denying citizens many opportunities that would improve their lives.

Such character is what propelled Abraham into leadership as his ideas were highly acceptable to the citizens. Being the man of astute character he was, the citizens did not mind entrusting him with the leadership of America.According to Browne, Lincoln is commonly referred to in some books as “The Great War President”. Abraham’s character was highly likable and it allowed him some influence over his staff. As the president, he was the chief commander and was highly involved in war plans.

Browne uses Abraham’s character to justify his success in military planning. He writes that Abraham was in good terms with most of his generals and that formed a key contribution to his military success. Abraham character of selflessness made him have his peoples’ needs at heart and was ready to fight for them (Browne).Any reader would enjoy reading Browne’s book since he writes about a one of America’s presidents who had a very interesting political career. In bringing out his idea of Abraham’s character, Browne mostly gives accounts that show the positives of Abraham Lincoln and the most popular decisions he made.

An example is when Browne writes that he interviewed Abraham’s associates, he does not write about those that gave negative information about Abraham or his regime. Browne relies on the opinions and views of those he interviewed and he wants readers of his book to believe that all the interviewees had the same views of Abraham’s character.Works CitedBrowne, Francis Fisher.
