THEODORE ROOSEVELT AND INDUSTRIAL REVOLUTION Presidential Assassinations in the United s is mostly associated with unknown political motives. Abraham Lincoln, John F. Kennedy and James Garfield went through the hand of these unforgiving murderers. However, William McKinley was the most dangerous as the assassin claimed political motive again McKinley. He said he hated the capitalist and the party that the president represented. He was killed at a time when he stood at the peak of his career in politics. Mckinley was a charismatic leader with a great political influence that helped him trounce his longtime competitor William Jennings Bryan a year earlier before his death in 1901.His steadfastness in solving the crisis that the united States in the 1893 experienced earned him candidacy in Democrat and populist party in 1896.Strikes, riots, increased taxes and factories, closed. His presidency was so timely that he worked hard to safeguard the worsening situation such in a few weeks time; his achievements were identifiable. During his campaigns, though he did not move around looking for votes but allowed the citizens to visit him in his ohio state, he promised to restore prosperity. Theodore Roosevelt, the 26th president of United States of America became the president after the assassination of William McKinley in 1901. He was experienced in handling public services after serving in public offices as a governor of the New York and secretary of the Navy Department in McKinley’s first administration from his vast experience and rising political career in the New York. He fought for the freedom of Cuba from Spain in 1898 and together with Leonard Wood organized the rough Riders, which was the first U.S Calvary. The aftermath of the war left United States in the acquisition of Spanish empire and the Caribbean. Moreover, the United States gained protectorate over Cuba and gave it overseas possession dominance. Roosevelt was unique in his approach to progressive achievements as a leader. 1 Mckinley managed to win the presidency in March 1897. As promised, the factories were opened, workers returned to work and this earned him credit. Rauchway (2003) believes that in 1898, The United States became an international colonial empire. During the short war with Spain, the president had not wanted colonies; however, the German power would dare and despoil them. The president was so prayerful and at one time he confessed his prayers before he went to sleep. God’s presence was felt and in the next election, with his able running mate, Roosevelt Theodore, who had the energy for both of them, triumphed with ease against his opponent Bryan. In addition, in 1901, at the pan –American Exposition, the president celebrated the achievements he had accomplished as the president of the United States. Throughout the grounds stood the evidence of hard work and power, the new electrical circuit, the Americanized coated buildings, decorated with the figurative and literal. On September 5th, 1901, the president gave his speech in an open-air pavilion to the crowd which was eager to listen to him. He said he had a fleet of ship, for commercial purposes, the Trans. Isthmian canal that would ease the movement of the ship from ocean to ocean and a trans-pacific undersea cable, which would carry information ideas and culture. Amongst the crowd was a man with a gun in his pocket, who keenly listened to the president’s promise of conservative policies that were preordained to support the development of the American economy.2 While giving his speech, the president was shot. The twin bullets in his body confirmed his death. The crowd jostled to see what had happened despite being pushed back and forth by the helmeted Exposition Guards. Behind the crowd was a cameraman, from the Thomas A. Edison Company, he recorded the scene on the film such that after centuries away, the flickering images of horrified onlookers can still be accessible. Despite baseless allegations that the assailant was mad, that gives a legitimate reason to kill, the district Attorney confirmed that Mckinley’s had failed to establish evidence to prove his insanity Leon F. Czolgosz the assassin was taken to Buffalo police station, when asked by detective sergeant James Vallely why he had killed the president, he confidently said he was on his duty. The first move that the president felt was more important was to increase the industrial strength. Roosevelt reshaped industrial growth in America through imports and exports, chemical industries, automobile, and electric power which stimulated growth. These improvements redesigned the lifestyle and patterns of the Americans. William Jennings Bryan, formerly Secretary of State in the United States was an astute American politician from 1890s until his untimely death. In 1890, he was elected to the congress. He strongly opposed high protective tariffs, advocated for free silver and his oratorical prowess earned him fame that greatly influenced the masses, this earned him the nomination in Populist Party later. Bryan worked to unite the Democrats and the populist in Nebraska in 1894. In addition, populist and allies, led by William Jennings Bryan made major contributions in America’s reforms and solutions. His most outstanding contribution; he negotiated the arbitration treaties that involved 30 nations that marked the end of the war. His neutrality during the breakout of the First World War gained him intelligence and courage. He led worthy causes that included peace, Christian fundamentalism, woman suffrage and prohibition. However, he died before these goals were achieved.3 Lastly, and most importantly, America’s development is dynamic, not static. It has undergone a series of industrial growth and development despite unavoidable challenges. This makes America the most powerful state in the world.
