American History Analysis The American history study was captured by the ideas of President Eisenhower and General Marshall who noticed the ill-preparedness of the America’s military armed forces which led to considerable loss. This loss was as a result of military unpreparedness, overconfidence in willingness to sacrifice (McPherson 46). Fulfillment of the task of protecting the nation required the projection of the army’s preparation past the immediate prospect. They advocated for military preparedness through establishing and maintaining a good defense policy. Modern warfare requires proper planning if the war was to bring forth peace. They both noted the need for peace which was the main objective of the war or conflict.
America’s prestige and leadership did not only depend on its unrivalled material progress, military strength and riches but also in its use of power to its concern of World peace and improving human lives. Thus the need to find out how to solve differences not with arms but using decent and intellectual ways. This was done through the formation of an international system for preventing wars through development of the United Nations to help in finding a realistic solution. Different nations could send their representatives to attend these conferences whose main objective was to deliberate on how best to tackle a particular problem that was of concern to the World or on how to avert a possible crisis (Churchill 67). Most modernized nations have done research in an effort to create better social security systems for nations which are unable to provide for themselves by giving effective indemnity against disasters. This avoids the danger of emergency countrywide improvising of national defense. They also recognized the use of technological combat as a result of past failures where their weapons could not match those of the Axis powers.
General Marshall came up with ideas which if implemented could help in their defense strategies. He supported President Washington’s program which was for the peace time training or the universal military training of the citizens. The essence of this training was to ensure that in case of an emergency, the trained citizens could be recalled to help in the forces. The idea behind this was to create employment opportunities to the trained citizens directly or indirectly in fields related to security. It was noted that technology could not be relied on solely in times of war as the machines required people to operate them. The Axis powers used the strategy of imposing an invisible unpleasant force to win any biased row and to their disadvantage brought out their weaknesses and consequently led to their defeat. Marshall also noted that there was a misunderstanding of military preparedness with the causes of war which led to another crisis. There was the need to correct the tragic mistake of that a defense policy was a combat policy. His plan noted that organized awareness for the whole society could decrease the demand for future sacrifices (Churchill 23).
President Eisenhower, after years of bearing the responsibility of protecting the nation from foreign enemies as president, acknowledged achievements and threats posed by these achievements. He noted that America’s success and progress was threatened by world conflicts which needed emotional and momentary sacrifices of disaster. He advocated for the acknowledgment of military organization and its impact on economical and political field as the makeup of our society. Thus cautioned against the attainment of unwanted influence by the armed forces – industry complex to avoid misuse of power (Adams78). He noted the importance of integrating old and new ideologies in the principles of a self-governing system.
