?COLONIALISM Introduction Ever since it was formed, capitalism was always associated with practical practices. In case of colonized nations like India and South Africa, capitalism assumed the form of structural oppression. Colonization of nations introduced capitalism in those respective nations. From modern point of view, neocolonialism refers to economic exploitation in large industrial centers and metropolis. The third world countries are the maximum subjected to these types of exploitations. Organizations, especially the large scale and the medium scale ones play the role of colonist. The workers are exploited on only on physical basis but also on mental level (Schweickart 9-11). This paper explores the attributes of colonization, and implications as it is practiced in modern times. The effectiveness of colonization, with respect to capitalism is the chiefly dealt with in this paper. Colonization and capitalism Under certain contexts, colonization and capitalism have become synonymous. A colonized world is always divided or compartmentalized in the sense that it is divided between the natives and the new comers. For instance the racial problem occurred during South Africa apartheid is an instance of this. During the first half of twentieth century, the whites practiced racial prejudice against the native blacks (Allen 95- 102). Division of class goes in line with the Aristotelian logic where there is no possibility of conciliation. The sector for colonists is strongly built with all pleasures and fineries. It is a protected space, clean and pleasant. The native quarters are poles apart. None ever notices when a niggers takes birth or dies. Both the people and the place remain dingy and dirty. They lust for material possessions. As a matter of fact, wealth too was concentrated in the hands of the oppressor class. The reason why they accumulate wealth is that simply because they belong to the colonist’s sector. Except for the ruling class, all other types of classes are regarded as belonging to an ‘other class’. (Fanon 1-32) As happened in case of colonization by European nations, the natives were separated, both in geographical and social classification terms. It has been a custom in capitalist societies that the traditions are passed from one generation to another. Similarly the sense of exploitation also passed from one generation to another and the horrors of submission and inhibition seem to be familiar. It makes maintenance of rules and regulations easier for the capitalist class. A characteristic feature noticed in colonized countries is that there always exist certain groups, sermonizers, and councilors who butt in between the capitalist class and the exploited. (Fanon 1-15) Decolonization is a situation where the aspects and practices of colonization are challenged. The colonized world possesses little values and ethics. The colonized state experience destruction and corruption. These in turn negate their values and make them exposed to instruments of blind forces. The colonizer, as Manichaean states often inflict violence. As was found out by Chungara, the labor class she described went through similar experiences. The capitalist class had exploited them to their very last means. The struggle which they had to do on a daily basis is has become a familiar thing. (Fanon 1-32) Struggle and protest is another characteristic feature of colonized states. There are several aspects that oppressed people learn from their maters or from the ruling class as a whole. The most important aspect is individualism. Contestation is an important aspect of colonization. Whenever there is any case of violence, the oppressor tries to exercise full control over the oppressed classes. This period is generally marked with violence and suppression. However the colonized people continue to rebel and these results in sporadic occurrence of violence. (Fanon 1-32). Global capitalism is one of the rising concerns in present times. Ibrahim’s book deals with Egypt. The adverse effects of capitalism on Arabic society, is highlighted. The multinational corporations of Egypt were exercising capitalistic attitude towards its employees. The exploitations and humilities of the employees actually highlighted the type of oppression colonial party inflicts on the colonized. True civilization always depends on good conduct. Other important aspects of it are true knowledge about one’s self, duty, morality and ones control over one’s mind. Passive resistance is another aspect that is found in colonized nations. All these are different forms of capitalism. Indian history has its own share of colonization. The revolt in Indian subcontinent was aroused by group of men who loved truth and freedom and feared nobody else. (Gandhi 39- 42). Passive resistance does not support use of physical force as well as use of gunpowder. Any man could turn out to be a passive resister. Loads of unpleasant and adverse experiences could make a man a passive resister. Chastity is another prime requirement for passive resistance. In a capitalist system, there are little scopes to display passive resistance. This is primarily because capitalism involves working together of communities that is large number of workers work at a same place at the same time. Work is an obligation for them, rather a physical compulsion. Colonial India overcame British colonization by directing this obligation towards the British in order to obtain their rights and designations. (Gandhi 39- 81). Colonization is closely associated with imperialism. But at the same time, it is associated with hypocrisy. The capitalist exploitation presents itself in the form of normal human values, especially when organizational functions are concerned. As it was observed in case of Coca cola in Egypt, the greedy and profit- maximization outlook of Coca cola exploited its workers. The level of exploitation was huge. The workers were virtually turned into machines. This reflects the physical exploitation that is generally associated with reign of colonial rulers. As the employees could not protest against their powerful multinational employer, they suffered from depression and frustration. Thus, it could be inferred that consumerism is behind the degradation of such societies. The capitalist system imposes consumerism on an external or superficial level (Alkodimi, and Omar 56- 65). Conclusion Unity was primarily the important thing for groups and family, which in turn, was one of the characteristics of underdeveloped countries. This wonderful super-structure which passes through the strict, harsh society has a very important function in the way unity works. In the world of colonies, the effects caused by the colonies, was kept aside on verge like a caustic agent losing a sore. Due to the outputs found through physical strength had made many experts to categorize the colonized as hysterical. The super-excited effects were spied by unveiled guardians, who constantly interacted with the personalities of muscular strength. Another side of these colonized affectivities was found where one can see its energy was drained by the essence of dance. (Cesaire 16- 20). Europe began to flourish after it came under the control of the most powerful industries. At the end, we can conclude that United States was more cruel, even suppressing the high level of cruelness employed by the Western Europe. Colonialism was contradictory to capitalism including racial problem between the whites and blacks as an example. Caste discrimination was also a part of colonization and capitalism. Colonialist Europe was not fair enough to the colonizing action by over viewing its progress in work material. (Fanon 19). Administering overseas territories are now being honored according to the processes of forgers and torturers. Thus, any research or study of the world of colonies therefore must carry an understanding of the process of dance and possession. Decolonization was an anti-colonizing situation which opposed colonization. Besides, capitalism is hiking day by day whose sources are the multinational corporations and victims are its employees.
