? Call of the wild Due: Thesis Call of the world is a ical masterpiece based on Jack London's 1903 publications. The movie was acted in 1935 and later redone in 1972. The movie received international accreditation for its flow, overview and a blend of sorrow, enthusiasm and adrenaline in one complete cocktail. The purpose of this paper is to shed some limelight on the overview of the movie, how the director of the movie explains the views of the author of the prior publication. While historical accuracy is of the essence, Call of the Wild provides relevance in time when the world had not seen much development in politics, economically and certain things that presently go differently. Overview Call of the wild takes place in suburban America. While reviewers praise the plot of the stories, many people have had different reviews of the influence it may have on the world situation today, be it among the young or adults. The perception this movie creates is one that leaves different emotions in the minds of the audience. The movies may be considered for the young and the old, where all would enjoy it. It does not have any negative influence to children, adolescents or adults and still maintains a spark that interests all in the audience. Certain contemporary movies give a face for controversy since they provide especially young audience with negative influences that are harmful. For instance, many movies will have characters cursing, smoking or even having nude scenes. This is however not the case with Call of the Wild. Despite not having negative influences on people, it contains certain emotionally strong scenes that some may consider inappropriate to their children. For instance, there is a scene with a grandfather who was angry with his daughter, bullying taking place, a dog being mishandled by his owners and many more. However, all these are scenes that the director and the writer want to develop the heightened themes present in that era of mediocrity. Plot The movie depicts a scene where a dog living in greatness and wealth is stolen by a gambling insensitive housekeeper and sold in the city. He faces many challenges from his new owners where he is not given food, locked in small room. Luckily, he gets chance of redemption and fights for freedom and better living. His efforts go unrewarded and quite he later goes through endless instances of being tormented by his owner. Later, he finds new owner dispatchers where he gains experience of surviving harsh weather conditions of the winter. On one particular instance after a long journey, he is able to redeem himself in the wild and leads his way to another pack of wild dogs and sometimes ends in rivalry with some members of the pack. The dog, Buck, is later able to become head of the pack and leads the rest through the thick cold forests. Afterwards, Buck finds himself in the postal delivery service where he also finds the difficulty of having to carry heavy loads filled with letters and parcels with other dogs. Buck then move on to a trio of owners, who have minimal experience in controlling, feeding or treating sled dogs. He is able to survive the inexperience of the three owners and after a dangerous experience with the owners and members of the sled. Some drown while Buck survives the experience and finds himself in the hands of Thornton; another owner. Thornton treats him well and is experienced to work with dog having realized that Buck was a remarkable dog. Through his quest in search of gold, Buck helps him a lot and sometime wins him bets in return for money. Buck is a strong dog. He forms a great bond with his owner and a wolf. One night after Buck and the wolf go running, they come back and find Thornton and the rest of the villagers killed by rival Indians. He is disappointed and in turn resorts to avenging on behalf of Thornton. Every year, Bucks returns to the site of the village to mourn his friend’s demise. Themes in Call of the Wild The movie consists of an evident theme an outreach for oneness. Buck has not been a violent dog, and he refuses to be that until his moment of ‘insanity’ when his friend is killed. The movie tries to harmonize towards living in peace even with our enemies; thus love among all. Another evident theme is that of prevalence by the strongest in the world. Buck is often in conflict with other people, dogs and so on. At the end of the movie, buck is deemed as the strongest character despite having done through so much. He has constantly been subject to rough treatment from his owners and other dogs in the pack until he finally meets Thornton. This movie tries to show that only the fittest and the strongest shall survive. It therefore teaches vigilance in order to survive. The theme of the ultimate survivors between nurturing and nature born is also raised. Wolves are deemed strong outdoor and wild animals. Buck is able to beat his way through the jungle and even eventually kills the leader of the wild pack. He is able to become the leader despite having been a tame and relaxed dog. He gains his experience through constant struggling and eventually becomes the ultimate at the end of the movie. Through the development of these themes, the movie raises a series of debates that all point to various arguments in philosophy. These arguments are the backbone of the history of politics which was the result of the basic philosophical ways of thinking that have revolutionized the world through constant development. Relevance and Historical Accuracy The development of human minds and their way of thinking are the primary cause of the way things run presently. Philosophy tries to find the way the world runs and the processes that have led to the present day. Many contradicting theories of human existence are still a main cause of concern, liberalism and conservatism have led to political development through party affiliation have led to democracy, slavery and freedom and religion and science were major causes of conflict; and so many more theories. These conflicts of belief and interests have led to outstanding development of the world; that is civilization rocking the world now. Buck was a tame dog. He was used to a life of luxury and pride. He however encountered something out of his will that changed his life forever. It changed his way of thinking and forced him to adapt to a new life of hardship and struggling. He turned wild and this gave him a better life where it is believed that he lives even after his death. The theme of nurture versus nature provides great platform towards reviewing the relevance of this movie to history accuracy. Nurturing perceives that nature builds someone and moulds them into whatever it takes them through1. The theory of nature assumes that one lives just as they are born, and that is what determines their life henceforth. This would raise the debate of whether homosexuality and lesbianism is an act of nature or whether it is simply imposed. This is an example of a debate that has revolutionized the world and has changed many people’s way of thinking. This movie has been seen to encourage on primitivism as a way of life. Artists and painters tend to be more of primitive than for civilization. The world’s population of over 99% is civilized. When buck goes from the tame to the wild life, he is deemed to have transformed from civilization into primitivism. Religion has raised the most outstanding debate ever since medieval times. The movie seems to inhibit the debate on religion and science when the dog character insists on living peacefully and not fighting off his enemies when he is mistreated. The assumption therefore is that the theme of religion -towards peaceful living, is introduced. However, in as much as religion has very credible outlay of religious people most of them are civilized even though the church and other religions work towards transformation ‘back to primitivism’. Civilization on the other hand is believed to be highly automated and mechanized and thus scientific. Information technology has transformed the world and brought about certain perspectives that religion tends to disagree with this. ‘Test tube babies’ for instance are a very great concern to Christianity, but a breakthrough in science. Scientists now believe that they can provide life. Christianity however disapproves of this and bases that God is the sole provider of life. Since science believes in fact and God’s existence is disputable, then religion and science do not go together. The fight between science and religion goes back to the theory of man’s origin. The Darwinian Theory suggests natural selection to have caused man’s existence as opposed to Christian creation theory. Scientists do not believe in a supernatural being, but Christians also do not believe in chance to have caused man’s existence. For this reason, it is evident that the movie has been relevant since time immemorial till today. The relevance of the movie and story as a whole make it both a classic and a modern day movie. The clear fact is that through an evaluation of the themes and the plot of the movie, there is a concise belief in Christianity and dismiss of science and fiction. Christianity bases on faith, while science deals with facts. The movie has a wide audience from the young to the old and has shown a concise stand on where the author of the first publication lays; on which the movie was based stands. Themes are the main reason why it is possible for a reviewer to tell the mind of the director of the movie. The blend between scenes is a clear stipulation of the different themes it was intended to induce in the audience. The themes introduced by the director are relevant in the era of the making of the movie. As well, the same debates rock the atmosphere in modern day.
