Merits and demerits of documents and drawings Document can be defined as any form of writing in a written media like a paper to provide information; it usually gives information of official use. In most cases it does provide persons’ thinking by use of symbolic marks. On the other hand, drawings is defined as an illustration that is drawn using the hand and may be published in a book, magazine, or newspaper; this can be any form presentation of object(s) on a surface by use of lines (Calloway 12). In this paper, am going to discuss the merits and demits of documents and drawings according to the history regarding Indians and the history of American west. To start with, the documents and drawings were accessible and reliable to the non specialist and the students; documents and drawings were drawn from a variety of tribes. They provided a reliable way to pass out information from one person or country to another inform of teachings because provided a reach history sources. In the Indians and west America history, books were used as a way of communication; books and other print media provided people with an effective way to pass data. However, there was a printed magazine. These magazines provided people with information of current affairs about occurrences in their respective countries. In this way, the printed documents and the drawings were reliable and accessible to people especially students and non-specialist. This means that the demands for students and non specialist were met (Calloway 56). In the Indian and west American history, documents and drawings were accountable; with the invention of writing and drawing in the respective countries. Information could be put in paper (whether hand written or printed) and be preserved for future usage by the clients. In this way, it met the demands and standards of the future generation (students). One could easily retrieve the information at any given time for his or her use i.e. The information was readily available at any given time for use. For example, the Indian drawings could be preserved and be used late in their life history. In this way, we can say that documents and drawings were accountable to the needs of the students and the non specialist (Calloway 79). However, the drawings and the documents does provide more detailed information; documents and drawings provided a more precised and meaningful information. In this book, much of information about the Indian culture and the lost west is given, the Indians just like the lost west used drawings and documents. They found that documents and drawings provided more information compared to verbal information. Most of their journals or writings were done in drawings and documents in form of books and other print media. These documents and the drawings could easily give clear instruction which could easily be followed by another students or non specialist. In the history of the Indians and the lost west, books and translated materials were used to communicate and express people’s ideas. In this case, we find that information passed by writings or prints produced more meaningful and precised information. The different tribes like Mandans, Lakotas and Pawnees in the respective countries could easily communicate via the documents (Calloway 80). However, in the history of the Indians and the lost west, documents and the drawings were considered to be the cheapest form of communication which could be easily translated. In many occasion in the history of the Indians and the lost west, were translated to many other languages, documents and drawings met the demands of the other tribes. The documents for example, books could be written in another language. They could not be easily be understood by another tribe in the respective empires in Indians and lost west. Thus, there was appointed personnel who were depended by the rest to translate. The person could easily translate the written document or documents in a way that could enable other people to understand (Calloway 120). In addition to the same, the documents could easily isolate or target the educated people in society; the written documents and drawings by the Indians and lost west required one to study how to write and read, in this way the citizens who could not read or write would employ someone to this on their behalf. On the other hand, the documents could be composed in a language that could just be understood by a certain community and not the other; this means that the documents and drawings could target a certain type of race. Despite the translations made, it did not meet the magnitudes demands well (Calloway 121). Consequently, the drawings and documents were composed in a manner that could be enjoyable and fun; the drawings and the documents could be done in an interesting way to provide some entertaining information to the reader by the writer. For example, the drawings and the documents presented the history of the Indians in an interesting way, this provided some funny impressions about something that could easily make the interpreter or reader enjoy. In the history of the Indians and the lost west, written riddles, proverbs and stories could sometime be read to the students to pass knowledge. Some of these were interesting to the targeted people and could be funny or enjoyable to them (Calloway 71). On the other hand, drawings and the documents were typeset in italics which meant the start of a document; at some extent, the documents and the drawings were not produced in clear prints. This meant that the reader could not mark the end or start of new documents. This is because there were no available resources. In the history of the Indian and the lost west, resources to produce the required print out were not present by then. Hence it was quite hard to get quality printed materials. There were few factories in the respective countries to produce required resources for documents and drawings; this meant that the drawings and the documents could not enhance the expectations of the people. Which is not the exact case in the present; there are many factories and industries in India and lost west to meet the demands of the clients (Calloway 74). However, once the information conveyed in documents or drawing could not be updated; once the information was written, it was quite hard for the writer to get the same source and update it. For example, Calloway Colin could not get his first books to update them once he had passed out to the people. However, in some cases, the documents could be edited and brought to market again. However, the fact remain that once the book is out, one cannot get to change the content of the book (Calloway 38). In addition, documents and drawings could be lost if not handle well; in the history of the Indians and the west Americans or the past, documents and drawings were not kept well i.e. There were poor methods of keeping documents compared to present day, this meant that some documents and drawings could easily be mishandled and get lost. Consequently lead to lose of valuable information (Calloway 40). Last but not least, in the history of Indians few people could easily read the book. This explains why there are many other easy versions for the same information. This was done to increase the understanding of the students and non specialist. By so doing the history of the Indians and the lost west could easily be understood by learners in schools. In addition, there were many translations which were done to enable many people to get the same information. This was done to enable many people have the content of the book. Thus this provided better understanding and teachings of the different tribes in the book (Calloway 42). In conclusion, the Indians and the lost west used documents and drawings since it had the following advantages; they were reliable and accessible, they were accountable (accountability) i.e. provide the history of the Indians in a clear way, they provided much information or detailed information about the culture of the Indians, they were cheap compared to other forms since they provided readily information, they could target a certain race of people i.e. the book was composed in a certain language and the information delivered was enjoyable and funny to reader. But as much as they had advantages, they also had disadvantages; at some extend they were expensive to get resources like doing the type-setting, it was quite difficult to update information once written document is out, could not reach wide range of number of people since the book was not translated to all the languages in the world, some documents and drawings could get lost if weren’t handle carefully and finally, few people could read the message since the book was not put in a way the students and non specialist could not read as per the points discussed earlier. As per the points discussed in this paper, it is of great importance to use the documents and the drawings to facilitate understanding. Work cited Calloway, Colin.
